@TheWeekndye What antivirus do you use? Is it possible you have more than one installed, for example perhaps your system came with one pre-installed? I ask because the symptoms you're describing are typical of an antivirus issue. Please see this thread for more details:
The fact that you need to manually connect to the Gallery is by design. This changed a few patches ago to lessen the load on EA servers and make the Gallery more responsive for those actually using it.
