Child Sim Journal Writing Bug

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? queue a child write in his or her journal with free table & island counter space & appropriate chairs & stools but no desk available.
What happens when the bug occurs? i receive an error message that reads, "[Sim] can't find a chair and table surface to be able to do this activity." adults can write in journals & children can do homework at a dining table; only the journal returns the error.
What do you expect to see? i expect a child to be able to write in a journal at a dining table or island counter, not just at a desk.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes

i'm unsure what is triggering the error. i have installed the most recent patch (3 October) without issue. prior to this i had not played for several weeks.

my Sims just moved to Del Sol Valley from San Myshuno & everything else seems to be working fine. they're living in a house that i downloaded from the gallery that was cc free. i do use a few mods & also added a few cc items, but all items needed for this task (table, chairs, island counters, stools & journals) are all Maxis created. all Sims in the family have the same journals as they did before the move. the dining table works correctly for other functions (eating, reading, homework, etc.); also, adults can write in journals at tables & island counters without issue. i was able to have the child write in his journal at a desk, but not the table or island, even if i placed the journal on the surface beforehand.
