computer file suspicious

rujuta4me  Sims 4 should definitely not be placing files directly in Documents (rather than inside the Electronic Arts folder), and it shouldn't be able to read this file either.  Your white-hat hacker friend may be able to allow permissions again and then use Process Monitor, or a similar app, to see whether anything is accessing this file as you play Sims 4.  I'd be interested in the results.

I don't have this file anywhere on my Mac or on my Windows PC after running the game post-update, and I haven't seen any other reports of it appearing either.  So it doesn't appear to be a new feature, at least.

I need to set up one drive to share it, which I gladly will.  I said that I turned off the permissions and when I played my sims 4 game, I had no white flashing in the game, no issues with the calendar when opening it or changing a days activities, ran so smoothly that I was pleasantly surprised!  

The file disturbs me greatly because I did not put in on my system, I don't know where it came from, is it needed for something microsoft put on my system since they just love to add junk to my system!   It must not be sims 4 but I am happy to share it with you since no one I know, has any idea what it is or where it came from!!!!   

rujuta4me  I wouldn't bother setting up OneDrive.  There are plenty of free filesharing services that don't require you to hook your computer into Microsoft's cloud sharing feature.  For example, if you have a gmail account, you have access to Google Drive and some free storage; I believe Dropbox and Pastebin allow some free uploads as well.

I appreciate your interest!!!! More than I can actually express.  I do have gmail account.  I looked at the microsoft one I would have to download and said no thanks!  So until I read your last comment, I was going to say I'll just leave it like it is as right now it has no access to my system, I did turn off permissions and my eyesight is so horrible now that I do not trust my vision to search Hkey's. Obiviously the person who was supposed to know more than me, didn't!?!?   At least the basic info which I learned online. 

All ArchiveShellextensions that show up in the Documents folder, typically are from a third party application, such as zip, rar, - storage vault applications, as I understand the info.  I found such application , rar, updated with the last microsoft update.  I really wish they would stop doing that.  Their updates have caused issues with my system in the past.  

I also do not want to share a file with you that may cause any problems.  When I turn permissions on, it "updates the day, time, and size" immediately - which in itself,  is risky when I don't know who, what and where from.    It only stops when I turn off permissions but then you cannot read the file at all.  The 'notepad' is blank with permissions off.   For now, until I can get more information, I don't want to risk anyone's system getting harmed!  So I need to find a way to make it readable but not runable?  thats not a word.   LOL  

rujuta4me  I appreciate your concern, but I'm not worried.  I have a virtual machine on my Windows PC and also a Mac, so on the off chance that this is something dangerous, I have ways to protect myself.  And it's difficult to make a dangerous .txt file anyway.

Still, it's your choice.

puzzlezaddictlet me say 'thank you' once again for help.  Family situation came up last night, so that's 1st,  I am sure you understand.  I will educated myself on the use of Chrome/google drive, asap.  As soon as I get it ready, I will let you know.
