Cpu Temps

I own a ryzen 7 9800x3d  and 5080 and I play the sims or attempt too at 1440p with all on the highest settings the only one is edge smoothing is off. I play no mods or cc and I plan on too. My cpu hits 70s to 80s and hits 92 for like 30secs and drops back down to the 70s and 80s. I have a good aio cooler and I don't own many games to test it out but the ones I do own don't seem to be having the same problem. This is my first time ever owning a pc and I don't know if it's normal for it to hit that high when playing the sims. I do own all the packs, and kits.

Any type of feedback would help so much.

  • ZinaAngel55  That's pretty high if your AIO cooler is as good as you say it is, especially given the power of your processor and the relatively undemanding nature of Sims 4.  But it's not dangerous.  I'd only suggest you needed to do something if your CPU temps reached 95º or higher.

Having said that, it's possible that the cooler is mounted incorrectly or that it's not getting good contact.  If you're comfortable doing so, I'd suggest removing the cooler and having a look.  You should only see a very thin layer of thermal paste, if that's what you're using, with the CPU and the cooling plate partially visible.  Thermal paste is less efficient at transferring heat than direct metal-to-metal contact; it's there to fill in the microscopic air gaps, not to act as a buffer overall.

Point is, a better mount could help with the temperatures.

Another point to consider is how the radiator is mounted and what fans you're using.  Let me know where the fans are (inside or outside the radiator), whether they're intake or outtake, and whether you're using fans that came with the AIO cooler or generic case fans.

puzzlezaddict  Sorry for the late response. My aio is the nzxt 360 kraken elite. So the person who built my pc did intake on top and back and exhaust on bottom and side. I had the fans swapped for lian li fans to match my others fans. The fans are on top of the aio radiator. The thing is my idle temps having nothing opened is 39-43.

  • ZinaAngel55  The person who built the PC could have made a small mistake in mounting the cooler.  But separate from that, if you're using generic case fans, even Lian Li fans, they're not going to be nearly as efficient as the fans that came with the AIO cooler.  These are specifically engineered to move air over the radiator as efficiently as possible.  So please swap back and see whether the temperatures improve enough for your taste.

If that doesn't help (enough), check the cooler mount.

Idle temperatures don't tell you much of anything unless they're obviously too high.  When there's a small cooling issue (as opposed to a major one, where you can't run demanding games at all), the idle temps will often be normal, or close enough to not tell the difference.
