[CURRENT ISSUE] Camera spins too quickly

Some players see their in-game camera spinning too quickly or being extremely sensitive in regular live mode or cinematic camera (tab) mode.  If you have this issue, please try the following:

  • Repair the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.
  • Disable Origin in-game: hover over your username, select Application Settings, then the Origin in-game header, and disable the option at the top.
  • Uninstall Reshade.
  • Disable any other overlays you have running: Discord, Steam, etc.
  • Play in a clean boot.  If this helps, you can use the 50/50 method to selectively reenable services until you find the one causing this issue.

If your game is affected and one of the above steps helped, please let us know which step fixed the issue.

If your game is still affected

Please post a video of the spinning camera.  There are plenty of free video capture programs available for download.  Please upload the video to YouTube or another file or video sharing service and link it or embed it in a post.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post:

  • Click Windows key-R and enter dxdiag in the run box.
  • When the scan has finished, click "Save all information" and save the .txt file to your desktop.
  • Choose Reply (not Quick Reply), click the button next to the paper clip icon below the text field, and choose your dxdiag.

I tried everything and nothing worked besides clicking repair through origin. If anyone has the same problem, I recommend doing that first!

I am having issues with my mouse controls. When turning the camera, it spins ridiculously fast to the point I can't control it at all. I can't change the angle of the camera without it being very difficult to get it to stop while in the direction I want it to be. I am also having major problems in CAS when trying to click and drag body parts to change their shape/size. This feels like any movement is exaggerated so it's impossible to get the shape and size of anything how I want it. Because of these issues alone, I haven't been able to play because it just isn't enjoyable in the slightest. I have tried moving the files out so it creates all new ones, and have reinstalled the game entirely from new. Neither of those things have fixed the issue so I am looking for things I can try next.

Hello everyone! I hope you're having a great day.

I just logged onto my game and I have a weird bug that I didn't have yesterday- my camera in CAS goes absolutely wild. I googled this, found it's because of Reshade, and I tested it out and sure enough, that's what's causing this. I uninstalled it, tried with no Reshade, and it works perfectly fine. People said to turn off Origin In-Game so I did that, but the problem still persists.

I've also tried turning off Xbox Game Bar, turning off overlays in Steam, Discord, and NVIDIA, and nothing is working. Reshade is something I really do need to have in my game, so I just don't know what could be causing this.

I haven't installed any mods or CC since the last time I played, and it was working perfectly. I didn't update my Reshade version, my Sims 4 version, or anything.

Any help would be very appreciated!

Reshade version: 4.9.1 (I also tried 4.7.0 and it still doesn’t work.)

    Game version: 1.76.81.1020

@thepeachyfaerie  If this truly is an issue only with Reshade, you'll need to go to the Reshade forum for help.  However, since this problem is usually caused by a conflict between two or more services, it's worth doing a bit more troubleshooting first.  For Origin in-game, try turning it off both overall within Origin (Application Settings > Origin in-game) and for Sims 4 alone (game library > right-click Sims 4, select Game Properties).

If that doesn't help, try playing in a clean boot:

When you reboot, go through the Task Manager's background processes list and end anything that doesn't absolutely need to be running.  (Some programs will still be active in a clean boot, for whatever reason.)  Then open only Origin and Sims 4, and Steam if you play through it, nothing else, and test.

    Hello, I appreciate the response!

So I tried disabling Origin In-Game through the methods you described, which didn't work. I then did the clean boot; only having Origin, Sims 4, and the essentials open stopped the problem. So I went through and enabled/disabled each other program one-by-one and I believe the cause was a program called X-Mouse Button Control, which is for reprogramming mouse buttons. I have removed the program and it seems to be working! Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

@thepeachyfaerie  Great to hear, and thanks for letting me know which program was the problem.  I've merged your posts with the master thread for this issue so that other people will be able to find your info too.

I've just downloaded the new Country Living pack and my camera angle has been spinning so fast and i also cannot use CAS as it makes the body morphing thing too fast so i cannot change my sims face. I have had this before temporarily but always fixed when i exit the game and reload it but it is not working anymore.

I have seen other answers and they all say about Origin-In-Game but i have that disabled and i have heard about Reshade but i dont know what that is. I think i have all overlays turned off for discord and steam. I have also tried repairing the game which didn't work either. I currently have no mods or CC installed.

I have attached my DxDiag. Please help me because i can't play the new sims pack like this as its too irritating.

@Carmenlpb  I've merged your post with the master thread for this issue.  Please try playing without Discord running, and Steam as well if you play through Origin; otherwise, double-check its overlay settings.

If those steps don't help, please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

Be sure to check the Task Manager's background processes list for anything that doesn't absolutely need to be running: many programs don't get disabled in a clean boot.

By the way, did you reset your laptop recently?  You're running a Windows build that's almost four years old, and the driver for your graphics card is the same age.  I haven't heard of this specifically causing the spinning camera, but it's possible, and more importantly, this version of Windows has been out of support for a while now.  Aside from your missing out on security-related patches, this means that other software you install may not be fully compatible, and you could run into more serious problems than this one.
