I used to play The Sims 4 on my laptop without issues, but for several months the game will not start. Each time I try to launch it, I receive the error:
"There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game."
I have already:
Reinstalled the game and EA App multiple times
Repaired the game through EA App
Updated Windows, DirectX, and Visual C++ Redistributables
Checked and repaired all system files
Tried creating a new Windows user account
Despite all of this, the game still will not launch, and the folder Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 is never created.
It seems the game cannot write to the Documents folder or is failing during the very first launch setup.
Could you please help me resolve this issue?
0wvjqm1gxife Thanks for the dxdiag, which shows you're running Windows 11 N, which doesn't come with certain resources already installed, some of which Sims 4 requires in order to even open. Your dxdiag also shows that you or the system has been trying to install the Media Feature Pack and failing. If that's not from you, try installing it manually:
If this doesn't help, or you've already tried, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:
- Click Windows key-X
- Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
- Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
- The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
- After it reaches 100%, click Windows key-X again
- Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
- Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
- Post the message you receive here
Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates. If any install, restart again afterwards. Then try again to install the Media Feature pack. If you get an error, please post a screenshot.
