Deleted Household Member?!

I launched the Sims 4 today to play my (only) saved household. When I selected it, I was asked to select a sim to play. Instead of selecting the sim I had begun the game with, I selected her husband, a premade character that she married inside of the game. When the game loaded, though, my original sim was completely removed from the game!  There is no trace of her, and this new file, with just one sim, replaced both of my save slots. What happened? Is there any way to retrieve my original sim, or am I stuck with just one half of my household?
