What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All EPs, All SPs, All GP except for Star Wars, Kits: Country Kitchen, Courtyard Oasis, Industrial Loft, Blooming Rooms, Carnavale Streetwear, Little Campers, Desert Luxe, Pastel Pop, Bathroom Clutter, Greenhouse Haven, Book Nook, Poolside Splash, Modern Luxe, Castle Estate, Riveria Retreat, and Cozy Bistro
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? With directx 11 active, view the game version file, check the build/buy catalog with cc installed that rely on the game to generate thumbnails, and try to switch to different categories to view objects in build/buy.
What happens when the bug occurs? Three Issues with directx 11 active. 1) game version file is unreadable (see attached screenshot). 2) any cc that relies on the game to generate thumbnails in build/buy are now blank. Only thumbnails from cc that are custom or have overlays are visible. 3) My most troubling issue, game crashes in build/buy mode when trying to switch to a different display (e.g. in decorations going from plants to wall sculptures). The crash happens after a few minutes of being frozen, then the screen flashes white, and the game and ea app close. No error files are produced when this happens (no lastexception, lastcrash, etc).
What do you expect to see? The game version file should show the game version accurately, the game should generate thumbnails for any item that needs it, and the game should not be crashing every time I try to switch what type of items I want to view in build/buy
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
The issue with the gameversion.txt file is totally unrelated to DX11 You can find a thread here from some time ago where I explain the issue. You can change to a better text editor than notepad to read it.
For the other issue Move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game in a new save.
If it works now check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken.
