Dual Monitor Problem With Sims 4 After Upgrading to Windows 10

Before upgrading to Windows 10, while playing Sims 4 I could easily switch from single monitor mode (on pc) to dual monitor mode (pc+tv) while playing in game with no problems involving video or sound.  Now when I use the Windows/Settings/System/Display Options to switch display from dual to single (or vis-versa) and go back to the game, i have game sounds still playing but my monitor screen(s) are white with no displays.  I can still hear the game running and sims interacting but without any display.   When I check Task Manager, it shows Sims 4 and Origin are still running. The only way I can stop the game is through Task Manager.  I've tried adjusting my Nvidia settings to no avail.  I've updated all of my drivers.  But can't seem to find a solution.  Is there something that should be changed in the Windows 10 settings.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Origin Client thinking that might have something to do with it and removed all of my Sims 4 Mods.  Problem still exists with a new game.  I'd like to keep the option of being able to switch back and forth as to what is displayed on the monitors so that I can watch movies, videos or listen to music on my other monitor (tv) while playing the game. Any suggestions and/or solutions would be greatly appreciated.  I didn't have this problem with Windows 8.1.

  • HI @soft_locs

really not good with this kind of issues but do you play the game in windowed or full screen mode ? I thought a dual setup was only possible if SIms is et to windowed mods so maybe double check if that's still the case ?

Tagging @roberta591 and @fons_garmo to see if they have other ideas on this.

@soft_locs Dual monitors can be difficult to setup and the biggest issue in your case is the video drivers. If the hardware worked with Win 8.1 and not Win 10 then my first suspect would be drivers. This depends on how are monitors are connected and resolutions settings. There is so much that needs to be looked at:

    - the capabilities of the video chip

    - how the monitors are connected

    - resolutions used

Rare but I have seen it is that programmers call a bug a feature - in other words what worked in Win 8 may not work in Win 10 because the bug got fixed. The majority of people do not set up their systems like you. You need the source code of the drivers which you probably will never see. I first suggestion is try to contact the graphics chip manufacturer and issue a bug report for their reference drivers.

  • I tried the thing the guy said about changing the resolution in the game files and that didn't work so instead I changed fullscreen to 0 and windowedfullscreen to 1, the game started up perfectly. Hope this works for you.
