EA app deleted itself, how to get Sims back?

Hello! I'm not quite sure how to word this situation, so please bare with me.

Yesterday, I noticed that the EA app on my windows computer was showing a blank icon, so I clicked on it to make sure everything was okay, and it gave me some sort of pop-up that said something along the lines of "This application does not exist." After that, the EA app as a whole disappeared. Out of curiosity, I clicked on The Sims4 app right below it, and it said that the application failed because "Origin has been uninstalled," and that I would need to reinstall Origin for TS4 to work. I figured that on windows, I wouldn't be able to run Origin, plus EA was saying that I already had the platform downloaded. So I downloaded Steam and install TS4 through it. After that, it still would not let me run Sims, even after I'd gone through and deleted the original Sims 4 that I had from June of 2023. It kept saying "Application failed because the user cancelled it," or something along those lines, which is bogus because I didn't tough anything other than the Sims tile.

I tried to download EA again, which kind of (?) worked, because it brought me to the homepage of EA app. It also returned all the files that had previously been deleted when EA deleted itself the first time around (which I believe was January 18th of this year.) I'm only sure EA somehow deleted itself because I wasn't using my laptop until yesterday, when I noticed it was gone.

However, it still won't let me open TS4. It gives me a pop-up through EA that says "Game not installed, go to your library the double-check TS4 is installed properly. If the game is already installed, click on the 3 dots to repair and manage the files." There is no repair option, and the only thing it'll give is a "Manage add-ons," and "View properties," which ends up taking me to an advanced properties window that makes me type in stuff.

I'm just so confused and I've done everything I could think of doing.

  • @tweekfan1  Please uninstall the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  Restart your computer and see whether you can launch or at least repair Sims 4.  If not, you can try downloading the game to the same location where it's already installed.  The App may simply verify the files and finalize the install process.

If that doesn't work, the simplest and likely fastest way to fix it is to uninstall the game with Revo as well.  Before doing so, go into Documents > Electronic Arts and rename the Sims 4 folder to something that doesn't include "Sims 4," so Revo doesn't flag it for deletion.

When reinstalling the game, it can be in almost any location, but do NOT use Documents or your desktop, or any folders within either one.

  • @tweekfan1 I kind of have the same problem.
I played the game yesterday with no problems. When I was done, my laptop has an update, which I started before I switch off. When I turned on my laptop today, I can see that the icon EA looks strange and I try to start the sims. It won't run. The same message comes up saying that I have to install Origin.

I haven't tried downloading EA or Origin yet though.

@josey96  Uninstall and reinstall the EA App.  If the normal process doesn't work, use Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  If Windows (or Revo) says the App isn't installed, try reinstalling it and choose the Repair option when prompted.

  • Same problem here, but with Battlefield 4.
I`m playing on windows PC, so maybe my solution will help:

I opened the settings on my computer, went to "apps", then "installed apps", chose the "EA" app, clicked on the three points on the right side and said "repair".

    After that, everything worked fine.

Still im curious why the EA app uninstalled itself without warning.

  • This just happened to me tonight. I opened my computer, realized it was laggy, so I restarted it (I usually just put it in sleep). When I got back on the EA app deleted itself and says I need to reinstall it. I tried playing sims 4 offline and it says I need to have origin installed. I see there’s a banner saying that the EA app has run into technical issues, so I wonder if this is one of the problems it’s run into?

@AllisonAria  As far as I've seen, the current issue with the EA App does not involve the App uninstalling itself.  I'd suggest downloading a fresh copy of the App installer and running it; if you get the option to repair the App, do so.

Once the App is (re)installed properly, if you still can't load it or play Sims 4, try this workaround:

  • This happened to me today. I went to the EA download page, downloaded it again and it said it was already downloaded. I pressed on the file and it gave me the option to repair, that is how I fixed the problem.
