@dumbbabiclan Please try repairing the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair. If this doesn't help, please post a screenshot of the error message you see when you try to place a new household. No need to spend much time on creating new sims; this is just for testing.
@puzzlezaddict it ended up being a wonky bit of cc, actually. i had a folder titled 'items' and it was some file in there that messed it up, so i deleted the whole thing.
