Fiance Died, Can't Get Engaged to New Boyfriend.

My Sim's fiance died in a fire, his spirit was released to the Underworld/Netherworld, call it what you want, and his picture and relationship information is dimmed down and I'm unable to contact him because of his being dead and all. Time goes on and my Sim finds new love and he's unable to pop the question to her because she's already engaged. How can I fix this problem?
