Frozen sims

Ever since yesterday morning, anytime I set my sims to do a task, they work for a few seconds before freezing in place. Arms at their sides, eyes vacant of all life. If I open the options panel, they spring back to life and return to their task for another burst of 2 seconds and then freeze again. I don't currently have any mods installed so it's not a mods issue. Anyone come across anything like this?

  • MargeKinson  Does this happen with no mods or custom content?  Does it happen on an EA-made lot, as in, not one you built or downloaded from the Gallery?

Separately, does this happen if you play with your computer offline?  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

Please also provide a dxdiag, for reference.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I have been having a similar problem with my sims. When they sit down sometimes they will just start jiggling about but not do any of the commands I have given them. This happens without mods and with mods. I have to reset them then suddenly they will appear where I had last told them to go or do.

I am having a similar issue. My Sims are also freezing in place during tasks; it was worse before yesterday's update. Sometimes, they would stay frozen for anywhere from 2 to 4 minutes (actual time, not the Sims clock, which continues to move; time doesn't stop). If I click build/buy, pause or go to manage worlds, they will usually unfreeze when I go back to the game.

It may have something to do with child Sims, as I didn't have an issue when the two children in the household were newborns (or before there were children in the household). It started when they aged up to infants (they are now toddlers). All the adults in the household vying to care for the children often caused an issue, as they can't all do the same task at once. But x-ing out the overlapping actions would sometimes set things back in motion (disabling caregiver autonomy has helped with that, too). I will mention that this happens every time I play, but to varying degrees. Sometimes it really affects gameplay to the point of frustration, sometimes it just happens a little bit and isn't a big deal.

I tried what puzzlezaddict suggested and played another household. I chose one with 5 Sims, one of whom is a toddler (my household has 8 Sims total, 6 adults, 2 toddlers). Everything seemed fine at first, no freezing. I went to visit the household I am having the issue with, and it was happening when I was there. I went back home, and the only time the game froze was when I was associating with the toddler. Not as bad as my regular household, but still, they would both stop moving for a few seconds or just nod at each other, not engaging in the current task.

I do have some cc in my game.

  • S2W23  Do you still need help?  If so, please try playing a different household in this same save and see whether you get the same issue.  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

If the other household is unaffected, try moving your main household to a different lot, something empty or EA-made, nothing from the Gallery or your own library.  You don't have to save here either.

If the other household has the same problem, try a new save.  If that has the problem too, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
