Game crashes every time I try to launch it

So around maybe a week or so ago I updated the sims 4 because it told me to (i use steam mainly), but since the update, every time i try to open it up it crashes in the initial loading screen. Ive tried everything I could find, and then i went to the config file and saw that my graphics driver wasnt found?? And then I tried looking for solutions to fix THAT (to no avail) and now im just lost on what to do.

  • ph00roo  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Don't worry about the unrecognized video card, at least for now.  It doesn't have any real consequences and can be fixed later.

  • ph00roo  Sorry for the late reply; I didn't have time to deal with this forum for a couple days.

Please disconnect all nonessential devices from your computer, basically everything except for the keyboard and mouse, even your speakers.  Restart your computer and try again to play.

If that doesn't help, please clear the EA App's cache:

and repair the game (EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair, or Steam > Sims 4 > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of the game files).  Please do this even if you have before.  Then try to play again, still with your old Sims 4 user folder moved to the desktop.
