Game crashes

I played Sims 4 yesterday (December 31st) but today (January 1st) I get into CAS and when I'm done and try to press Play the game freezes and crahes, kicking me out.  Anyone know what's happening?

  • ViciousMegZ  You can definitely disable the EA App on startup, although that won't help with resource use while you're playing Sims 4 since it has to be open anyway.  I would also disable both HP entries, both Microsoft Teams entries, and the ms-teams entry at the end of the list.  If you only occasionally use your VPN, disable it too at startup.  If you're frequently syncing your mobile devices, or letting them sync automatically, leave that entry enabled, but disable it if you're not doing this very often.  And disable OneDrive if you're not using it, but leave it if you are.

It's also a good idea to check the Task Manager whenever you've been using your computer for a while, or using a lot of other apps, and then want to open Sims 4.  Other apps might stay open or leave a background service running after you're done with them.  Or just get in the habit of restarting your laptop every time you'd like to play.

puzzlezaddict Here are the screenshots. Let me know what you think.

    Thank you in advance.

  • ViciousMegZ  You will want your antivirus enabled (Windows Security if you don't have anything else installed), and the sound driver (Intel or Realtek, probably) if it's there, but pretty much anything else can be disabled.  These apps will all open as normal if you decide to run them; they just won't do so on their own.  Plus, this is entirely reversible—you can reenable whatever you want if you change your mind.

More importantly, the services that are crucial to Windows or other essential functions, for example the graphics driver, won't appear here.  So you're not going to prevent your computer from working.

If you like, you can post a screenshot of the Startup list and I can look it over.

  • ViciousMegZ  I'm glad to hear it's working again.  I do see that Sims 4 was crashing in a way that suggests either it was running out of memory or the Nvidia graphics driver was too old or corrupt.  For the latter, Windows could have updated the driver and fixed the issue without your doing anything.

As far as memory goes though, the problem could come back, especially if you typically have a lot of background apps running while you play.  It also looks like you might have too many apps set to start with Windows.  So please open the Task Manager's Startup list and disable anything that doesn't need to be running all the time.  For example Edge and Teams might be on there.  Disabling these wouldn't prevent them from working when you wanted them to; it would just stop them from opening on their own.

I tried again and now it works. Both with default and editing.  I still did the dxdiag so maybe you can check it out anyway. Thanks for the help.

  • ViciousMegZ  Are you editing the dog in any way, or is even a default dog a problem?  Please test this if you haven't already.

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • I thought I could edit my post but I cannot. I tried again and it only crashes when I added a dog to my household. If I just create a Sim then it works.
