Game crashing on loading screen

Hi!

I need help, my game crashes whenever I'm in a loading screen, I'm able to get into the game with my primary household but if I switch households it crashes. I've tried taking out the sims 4 folder and staring with fresh file but I had the same issue so I uninstalled and reinstalled and continued to have the same issue. I also tried the 50/50 method with my mods but no matter what it keeps crashing. I'm at a loss and not sure what to do, I've attached the dxdiag if that helps.

  • @dinosforlunch  Since your original post, I've had two other players with this same StackHash-type crash report what fixed the issue.  The first removed Reshade, so if you have it, please delete it too, then repair Sims 4 (again, if you have already).

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.  If you still get a crash, please repeat the test except with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

This is not a long-term fix so much as a diagnostic test.  If it helps, you can selectively reenable apps and services until you find the culprit.  I would love to know what it is in that case, for all the other users with this kind of crash who either haven't solved it or haven't replied to me yet.

  • @dinosforlunch  Try disabling your Tobii eye tracking software.  Make sure nothing is running in the Task Manager, including in the background processes list.

And to be clear, when you moved the Sims 4 user folder, did you test a new save with no mods or custom content present, and with nothing added from the Gallery?  If not, please do so now.

@puzzlezaddict Thanks for replying! I uninstalled the tobii eye tracking software since its not something I use and many profiles in the task manager either keep coming back up or say operation could not be completed and access denied.

I did test the new save with no CC or mods, it was completely fresh and still crashed the first time but when I did it again it seemed to work fine when switching households and going back to 'manage worlds' after editing in CAS.

@puzzlezaddict Hello! sorry to bother again but I tried moving the sims 4 file out and starting fresh again with no mods or cc and it was still crashing

@dinosforlunch  You're not bothering me at all, but please post a new dxdiag so I can compare it to the first one.

Just in case the errors don't show properly, please also look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Try again to play, then look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@puzzlezaddict after removing the reshade it hasn't crashed yet and I've been playing for about an hour, it's possible my issues was the reshade but if it does crash I'll try playing in a clean boot and let you know from there?

    Update

@puzzlezaddict Hello again! It's been a few days and I've been playing roughly about an hour and a half a day and I've haven't had anymore troubles with the game crashing, so it was definitely the reshader that was causing the issue for me. I want to thank you again for your replies and for helping so much!
