chelceec If you move the entire household elsewhere, can you play them? I'm not sure from your description whether the problem is the sim you left behind or the lot (or its status as a residential rental). It's more likely to be the rental than the sim, but still, it's worth testing.
Please also let me know whether you can open the affected lots in Build mode. And please test with your Mods folder removed, as disabling mods isn't always as thorough as the setting name implies.
Residential rentals are somewhat broken, but they're not universally unusable, so something else is going on. It could be related to your mods (they can continue to affect a save even after being removed), or a bug affected both households, or something else, which is why some testing is in order.
