game fails to launch error code [135dec40:29f00e76:00000084:18a1dd51]

error code [135dec40:29f00e76:00000084:18a1dd51]

Following the 10/31/24 update, my Sims4 game is refusing to boot and displays the above error code (screengrab attached as well for reference).

I have read through the forum and done just about everything suggested, to no avail.

I've: restarted my computer several times (including in clean mode - definitely the game that's the issue), updated my computer and EA app, whitelisted the EA App and Sims4 files in my firewall, repaired the game over a dozen times over multiple days, logged out and back in several times, submitted an error report; pretty much everything but uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I don't have mods installed, so that can't be the issue.

I experienced a similar issue after the 10/01/24 update, but it resolved itself in 3-ish days.

Should I wait it out? I can't find a place to submit a ticket straight to EA to save my life - all roads have led me here. If anyone can offer me any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

  • @dschwett  Does this also happen in the new Windows account you created?  If so, try moving its location of Documents to a new folder you create just for this purpose.  Since this is a secondary account, you won't break anything in your main account by moving Documents.  Here's how:

If that doesn't help, please do a virus scan, described a little further down in that post.  I'm not saying your computer definitely has a virus, only that it's worth investigating at this point given all the other steps you've tried so far.

  • @dschwett  Have you tested with your antivirus (temporarily) disabled?  As long as you don't do anything else while testing, your computer should be safe.  You may also need to repair Sims 4 after disabling the AV and before trying to play.  If this helps, set an exception for EADesktop.exe, plus more for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the entire Bin folder they're in.

Yes, I have tried disabling my antivirus/firewall, and I have all the files you mentioned whitelisted 😭. Thank you for your suggestion!

@dschwett  Try playing in a new admin Windows account.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to an email address.  (You can keep declining to add one until you see the option to continue without one.)  You'll be able to try to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other user content won't be available.

The point of this test is to distinguish between issues limited to your main account and more global problems.

@dschwett  Please do a clean uninstall of Sims 4, as described here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

You probably don't need to uninstall the EA App, but it's better to be thorough.  Please do make sure to create a new folder into which you install the game itself.

I would strongly suggest doing all this with your antivirus disabled so it can't interfere with Sims 4 right away.  If the game works, reenable the AV and set all relevant exceptions—they probably won't apply anymore, since the game's location will have changed, that is if the exceptions still exist at all.

I did a clean uninstall and got a new error message (attached). It claims Sims 4 is already running even when I completely clear Task Manager and close all open apps/try to start it from the desktop launcher instead of EA.

This is after restarting my computer and temporarily turning off the firewall/antivirus.
