Game not responding or loading properly

I have been having this issue for a couple of weeks now. I thought I had resolved it, but sadly, it’s increasingly frustrating. I will not lie; I have quite a few mods, which I know is a risk, but I just got a new laptop to support them all, and I check as many of them as I can to know they are secure. The issue is that my computer stopped responding to the loading screen one day. I googled it and found on this message board to uninstall, clear the cache, and repair the game. I did all of those things and nothing. Then I found to remove my mods, so I did, and I added my mods back in groups of 50 to catch the glitch. That worked, but the result was I did not have to remove any mods, so it was not any mods I had. After that, I could play the game for about a week and a half until it stopped responding mid-game. I had to ctrl, alt, delete out, and I was stuck in the loading screen when I tried to reopen. If it was a mod, I had assumed the game would not have opened or let me play it, not just stop responding mid-game. After the first incident, I have not added any new mods to the game. After encountering this the first time, I restricted myself, so I did not think it would be a mod causing the game to glitch. I know mods can conflict with updates, but I have not had any game updates. This time, I again repaired the game, uninstalled it, cleared the cache and nothing. I am backing to removing mods in groups of 50 and putting them back in. But I am tired of this. I do not understand why it is not working when nothing has changed. There are no new mods or a new update, and I have checked a couple of times to make sure nothing is corrupted. I have a brand new laptop, and before this laptop, I ran my mods out of an external hard drive, and it worked better. I’m at a complete loss, and I was wondering if anybody had any advice or insight into resolving this problem. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

  • @wils8914  Does the lot you're trying to load use the Off the Grid challenge?  If so, please load the lot in Build mode and remove it.  You can choose Load Game rather than Resume and select the lot from there.

Even if you're not using OtG, it's still worth trying to load any broken lots in Build mode, and seeing whether you can load other households within the same save.  Let me know either way.

Please also test without any mods or custom content at least once, as in, move the Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbcache.package.  You don't need to save your progress—this is just for testing—but it's important to establish whether the problem is currently linked to anything in your Mods folder.  As for why it would happen now and not earlier, there are a few possibilities that aren't worth getting into unless this helps.
