game refuses to load with a missing mod

I am a huge Sims fan and an even bigger fan of Sims 4 mods.

I went CC shopping the other day and then tried to open my game but it said "

Unable to start:

Cannot start because the below file appears to be corrupted. If this file is a mod please remove it and try again. If not, please repair or reinstall the game via Origin."

I searched for the mod that kept the game from loading and deleted it; however, when I tried to open the game again it said the same mod was messing it up. I searched for this mod for about an hour and found nothing. I tried re-downloading the game, repairing the game via Origin, and testing which mods were messing with my game and none of them seemed to work.

Someone please help because I literally can't live without Sims.

  • Hi;

    In your Sims 4 folder, make sure you remove the localthumbcache.package file after having removed your mod; I would suggest you temporarily remove all your mods, remove the file I mentioned, then try to run the game again. If it works, then you can start re-adding your mods. (The localthumbcache.package file tends to store data that it derives from installed mods; removing it will force Sims 4 to create a new one with mods you currently are using.)

    If the issue arises again after re-adding your previous mods, remove all mods again temporarily, then start to add them in 50/50 intervals to discern what mod may be causing the problem from that point forward. (Namely, add half of your mods, run the game and see if the issue is occurring. If it isn't occurring, keep adding until the issue arises again, then start taking off mods to determine which mod it is. The 50/50 method as it is called is a troubleshooting methodology that narrows down broken mods by process of elimination.)

    If you're still having issues after this point, hopefully someone else here has additional troubleshooting steps beyond that.
