Game stuck in loops/freezing after Dream Home Decorator install

I just got Dream Home Decorator and now my game seems to freeze or get stuck in loops - the characters will all be unresponsive while the day goes on, even if I try resetSim; or my game will just get...

    @astartegirl  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and let me know whether the same problems are present.

    If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@astartegirl  Are you saying that your main household in each of your old saves is affected, or that all households in one old save are affected?  If it's the former, please try a different household within the same save, preferably one you haven't played before.  If it's the latter—you've already tried multiple households in one save—please create a couple new sims in that save and place them in one of the base game worlds.  The idea is to try to narrow things down a bit.
