Game stuck loading after newest update.

After the update today, my game is stuck perpetually loading the home screen and is completely unplayable. The screen continues to cycle through the tips, and the plumbob continues to spin, so it isn't freezing. It also isn't crashing-but it will not load the main menu, no matter how long I leave it for.

I have tried verifying and repairing the files through Steam, I have removed all mods and CC, I have tried launching through Steam and the EA app, and restarting my laptop. I would like to avoid completely uninstalling/reinstalling as I have a limited internet connection.

@SuperblySim I am encountering the exact same problem. Did the exact same things as you to try to fix it, though I don't have the game on steam, I have it directly from the EA app.
  • @SuperblySim and @valeriacor  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If you get an error when trying to move the Sims 4 folder, or it copies rather than moving, let me know.

If this doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

  • I was able to solve the issue by uninstalling the game on Steam, deleting the folder from my documents, and reinstalling. Unfortunate for us players who have metered internet connections, but it did work.

@SuperblySim  Glad to hear the game is working now.

@valeriacor (and @SuperblySim if you run into the issue again) Does the game work if you launch it while your computer is offline? Sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

  • I attempted launching the game while offline before I had fixed it, and that did not help. I also ran a dxdiag before posting on this forum, and still have it saved. If you'd like to see it, I've attached it below.

@SuperblySim  I do appreciate the dxdiag, as well as the data point about offline mode, and will keep those Sims 4-related errors in mind for any other threads about the same issue.  The important thing though is that you can play again.
