Glitching Game (pixelated) Freezing on start up

Hey everyone! I need some help fixing my Sims 4 game. Every time I load it up, the graphics get pixelated, and when I try to create a Sim, the game glitches out. It ends up freezing on the main menu or in Create-a-Sim, and I have to force quit using Task Manager.

I’ve tried everything — cleared the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, even reinstalled individual packs to see if one was corrupted. I’ve repaired the game multiple times and gone through all the troubleshooting steps with EA Support. I’m also not using any mods or custom content.

My drivers are up to date, I’ve scanned for corrupted files on my computer, but the game still won’t work. At this point, I’m wondering if the issue is with the EA App itself. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate it!

  • loyalktty  It looks like you correctly installed the driver.  Your dxdiag does list some newer graphics driver-related errors, but it doesn't have enough information to say whether these were from before or after you reinstalled it.

    So rather than try again (although you can if you want), try forcing Sims 4 to run in DirectX 11 mode.  Open your EA App game library, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 to the command line box.

    If you still run into issues, still with no mods or custom content present, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

    Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

    puzzlezaddictThank you so much! So, I did the process outlined ( I actually did it twice, because the first time I didn't download the intel driver first), so I think I did it correctly, but when I restarted the game, still having the same glitching issues. Here is the new dxdiag file, I'm hoping I did it right, might try a third time just to verify. 

     

  • loyalktty  Your dxdiag is full of crashes of the graphics driver, which would explain the issue.  So the first step is to clean-uninstall and reinstall the driver.  Here's how:

    You'll need to use the HP-provided driver.  Go here:

    Enter your laptop's serial number, choose your OS (just Windows 11 is fine) if prompted, and you'll land on the driver download page.  Rather than letting HP update your drivers, click All Drivers, then Driver-Graphics, and find the newest Intel driver, by version number.  The first two digits are the most important, i.e. 32 is newer than 31; after that, the last four matter.

    Your current version is 31.0.101.5333, which may be the newest-available, but regardless, it's important to clean-uninstall this version before installing it again or replacing it.

    Be sure to download the driver from HP before starting the uninstall process.  Otherwise, you'd need to go back online, and Windows might download a different, less-than-ideal driver for you.

    Once you've installed the new driver, restart your computer and test Sims 4.  If you still see any graphical issues, please post a new dxdiag.

  • loyalktty  Please test with no mods or custom content, as in, move the Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbcache.package.  You don't need to save your progress.

    If the problems are still present, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
