Still in the process of buying a new computer to play the sims 4 and I know I would need 18 gb of ram to run my sims with packs mods and cc but the computer I’m interested in has 512 gb of ssd is that enough I don’t know the difference.
@your_girl_ziy You're confusing memory and storage. Memory (RAM) is where your computer puts data it's using in the moment, so some data from Windows itself, essential drivers, and open applications. (The entire applications aren't loaded into RAM, just whatever is needed to run them.) You only need 8 GB RAM to run Sims 4 well, although more is nice to have.
Storage refers to where all the data your computer has saved is stored. So that's the full contents of all your applications, all your user data, all Windows's data, etc. 256 GB is enough for Sims 4 and your user files like saves and custom content, but 512 GB would be nice to have as well. SSD stands for solid-state drive, which is a type of storage. It's faster than traditional mechanical drives, but you don't have to worry too much about this because almost all new laptops come with an SSD.
As an example of the difference between memory and storage, the Sims 4 base game takes up about 18 GB storage. If you add all the packs, the total is more like 50 GB. But when you run the game, it only uses 2 to 5 GB of memory unless you have an extremely complicated save. The other data is available as needed, but the computer doesn't use all of it, so it doesn't all need to be in RAM.
