Graphics look bad. Jagged Edges.

Yall I need help because I'm getting pretty angry at my new computer, lol. I can't seem to get this game to look good. I bought a whole new machine just so I can play the game and it look good. I'm having a problem with jagged plants? And just overall meh graphics for objects. The game is on ultra, it looks the same in all settings.. no matter low, high, medium. I've googled and seen a few things to mess with on nividea control panel and nothing changes.

GPU - Nividea GeForce GTX 1660 Super

CPU - Intel i7-10700kf

RAM - 16GB

Running windows 10

Attached a few images to show how plants are looking. Like almost oversharpened??

Thank you in advance. My brain feels like its going to explode and I want to return the PC. lmao.

@daniiona  Your graphics card should be able to handle ultra settings without any issues.  The problem may be some antialiasing setting, either in the game or within the Nvidia Control Panel, and it may take a bit of tinkering to get the kind of picture quality you want.

Please right-click on your desktop, open the Control Panel, select Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings, and create a profile for TS4_x64.exe, if one doesn't already exist.  Set "Antialiasing - Mode" to "Override any application setting," then enable "Antialiasing - FXAA."  Apply, close the Control Panel, launch Sims 4, and see how it looks.  Please try it with Edge Smoothing both off and on in-game, and in both fullscreen and windowed fullscreen modes.

If this alone doesn't get the effects you want, you can try changing the other antialiasing settings in the Control Panel.  There's no harm in experimenting a bit, and again, check in both fullscreen and windowed fullscreen modes.

Since you're not the only person who's reported this kind of issue, I'd like to see a dxdiag as well, if for no othe reason than to compare your info with that from other affected players.

Thank you so much for the replies guys! I've messed with the antialiasing.. it looks a little better I think. Haha, at this point I can't tell if its just my brain giving up? Some worlds look better than others. Brindleton Bay just does not look good. Strangerville is a bit off too. Here are my settings and my dxdiag!

@daniiona  Does it make a difference if you switch between fullscreen and windowed fullscreen modes?  Does it help to set image sharpening (in your settings screenshot) to on, or to off specifically rather than letting it pick up the global setting?  The global setting can sometims allow the program itself to overrule the Control Panel, but that shouldn't happen if you specify a program setting.

You can also try disabling the Alienware Command Center in the Task Manager before launching the game.  The Command Center is throwing errors, and although it might not have anything to do with Sims 4, there's no harm in trying to play without it.

Even though it's unlikely to be affecting the graphics in Sims 4, it should be noted that your C drive is quite low on free space.  It's a good idea to clear up at least another 10 GB; try clearing out the Downloads folder if you're not sure what else to delete.

If none of the above works, you could try installing a slightly older graphics driver.  Yours is quite new, and perhaps it triggered this change.  You'd need to clean uninstall the current driver first; let me know if you need instructions on doing so or a link for an older driver.

  • I might be completely out of touch with reality here, but my game has always looked like this? I'm probably just used to it, but I feel like, in your photos, the game is just how it's always looked. Can I ask what you upgraded from? If you were once playing on low, or medium, most textures will have collectively looked a bit blurry and soft. Once you upgrade, and move your settings to ultra, a lot of the textures become a lot better, better lighting, shadows, things are more crisp, but there are quite a lot of objects in the game that still maintain this blurry, jagged, weird spikey mesh with blurry, low quality textures. Usually plants and small decor. I find that when I upgraded, having the great textures contrast with the less quality objects just made some of the objects look worse due to the direct comparison so maybe that is what you're noticing. I don't know if this made any sense, but I wouldn't think any program would be directly altering the visuals, unless you maybe are using reshade? Messing with Nvidia Control Panel can always help improve things a bit for you if messing with the in game settings doesn't really make it look bareable, but in terms of 'Is something wrong with my GPU/Laptop? I very much doubt it, so don't stress! 🙂

  • @puzzlezaddict I can't seem to follow the instructions to get to those settings. My control panel doesnt seem to have an option for Manage 3D settings...
