Game freezes when I rotate my camera while in build/buy mode.

For the past month or so (since updates around enchanted by nature) I have been unable to go into build/buy mode and rotate my camera without the game freezing up.

Specifically seems like the game freezes when I rotate the camera towards the left and I almost wonder if it’s related to the camera positioning itself for some reason…

And once it freezes up, I can’t even control alt delete to end the game. It creates a white screen and I can’t do anything on that monitor. I have to restart my entire computer to get anything working again.

Specifically I’ve been trying to build a restaurant in the San Myshuno spice market area (the lot on the top left side)

I’ve tried a few solutions already

I turned off my mods in my game settings

I also created a new save by opening up that world and selecting “save as” and calling it something new.

I deleted cache files within my sims files

I “repaired” the game through EAs app.

I followed a tutorial I saw on here from someone with a similar issue that recommended going through your windows files and repairing those and making sure windows security settings are updated.

None of those solutions have worked so I’m at a loss now. What do I do?

  • VictoriaSalter  Does this ever happen on other lots?  Please test if you haven't already, and include at least a couple complicated lots.  You don't need to download anything from the Gallery, and in fact it would be best not to; just try some default EA-made mansions.  You don't need to save your progress after testing them.

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

puzzlezaddict  I cannot seem to recreate this effect on any other lot so far.  It appears to be only the 1 lot in San Myshuno affected (it's the lot next to the salt house, I believe by default it's a karaoke bar).

I bulldozed that bar, and began building a restaurant, and was able to build a majority of it perfectly fine, then one day, after an update, it started freezing when I attempted to rotate the camera while in build/buy mode. Note: I also did not build with any CC either, but I did build with bb.moveobjects on however.

Man... I think it's something to do with the build itself. I decided to bulldoze the lot and terrain, but then replace it directly from my library and now I can't even load into the lot. It freezes trying to load in now.

  • VictoriaSalter  I apologize for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a few days.

Even if the problem is the lot itself, I do see a couple of issues in your dxdiag.  The first is that you're somewhat low on space.  While it's probably not causing any symptoms right now, it's still better for the overall health of your system to keep more like 30-40 GB free rather than the 15 you have now.

The other potential issue is that one of your monitors is plugged into the motherboard rather than the graphics card.  I'm not saying this is causing your current issue, but it's worth considering if you have trouble in any context other than playing with this particular lot.

I don't know which monitor you're using for Sims 4, but it needs to be connected to the GPU.  It looks like neither monitor supports DisplayPort, and your graphics card only has one HDMI port, so you'd need an adapter to have both connected at the same time.  But the first thing to do would be to test with only one monitor connected, again if you see other problems separate from the lot in question.

If you want to figure out what's wrong with the build, try placing it unfurnished, and furnished but on a different lot; and try a different build on the lot you've been using.  The idea is to try to isolate the issue.
