Have to keep Factory Resetting Game, but still crashes

My PC more than easily meets the recommended requirements, let alone the minimum. I am able to easily run it on Ultra mode if I wanted (I choose to only run on High anyway). CPU isn't overclocking, nothing is overheating, drivers are all up to date also.

I started a new game after not playing for a couple years and the character creation worked smoothly. However, the second I tried to load a household, my game crashed on the loading screen, becoming totally unresponsive. After some help from the community, I learned how to Factory Reset the game, which seemed to work and I played for a short while. Later I opened my game again and encountered the same problem. Factory Resetting once again fixed the issue, but the second I transferred my save file from earlier, it wouldn't work. This meant I had to start over, so I made a new game once more. This is my third time opening the game now and, yet again, it is crashing, the only fix being to Factory Reset, but I am unable to keep my save file. The second I put any save files into the new folder, my whole game is as unresponsive as before.

I don't want to keep factory resetting and starting a whole new family each time I want to play. Is there really no other way to fix this? I don't want to keep losing save files over this.

  • @AbbieBreeze  A dxdiag is always appreciated, but in your particular case, it doesn't show anything obvious.  Is OneDrive running on your computer?  Even if you never use it, it could be interfering with the game, specifically the user folder in Documents.  So try pausing OneDrive syncing before you play; you can see the option by right-clicking the OneDrive (cloud) icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

If that doesn't help, please let me know what antivirus you use.

I do want to mention that your C drive is getting somewhat low on space.  You could move some data to or reinstall a few apps on G, which is of course the same drive and therefore just as fast.
