HELP! The Sims 4 crashes during launch or in the main menu

Hello!

Last year I bought this computer HP Victus gaming computer with this specs: Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0.26100, Version DirectX-runtime: DirectX 12, CPU: 13th Gen Intel R Core TM i7-13700H, RAM: 16.0 GB, SSD - 953.9 GB

Last year I played the Sims 4 just fine but when I want to play it now the game gets stuck during launch (flickering white and black screen, then white and it stops I need to force shutdown in taskforce) or it gets stuck in the main menu if I am even lucky to get there.

I tried a lot of things;

  • moving the sims folder from documents to desktop and restart
  • all updates in every programme possible
  • repair in the app
  • removing the full game and reinstallation of everything (even the app)
  • checking if videocard is recognised and adding it in graphic cards - config override
  • removing the xbox app
  • shutdown my auto protect of norton virus
  • I never had any custom content or mods installed

I will add the dxdiag to this thread.

Thank you already for your help!

Kind regards

  • As well I want to add that I can play other heavy games like Hogwarts Legacy or Baldurs Gate 3 just fine. As well I have enough space on my SSD.

You are a sweetheart! Thank you so much! I fiddled with the Intel Graphics on the computer. Very weird instead of taking Nvidia I took Intel Graphics in computer setttings, display and then graphics. Then in Nvidia configuration I took in 3d settings Nvidia as graphical processor and apparently it does take my Nvidia. Haha... Well it works and thank you soooo much again!

  • Britt_Hera  That's great to hear, and thanks for the update.  If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to provide a couple of screenshots to show exactly which settings you changed and in what order?  I'd like to have something to point other users to, and I don't have a Windows laptop and so can't create the screenshots myself.

puzzlezaddictOfcourse! I'm very happy it finally works. The settings are weird but the Nvidia does takes over I believe. Well anyway the game works great so no complaints.

Here are the screenshots (it's in Dutch though). First I took the Intel Graphics in computer settings and after in Nvidia configuration I took in 3d settings Nvidia as my graphical processor.

    Thanks again! 😄😘

  • Britt_Hera  That's perfect, thanks.  Players should be able to use these, and I know where they're located.  It's also interesting that this particular combination works.

If you want to see which GPU the game is using at any given time, you should be able to see the activity in the Task Manager's Performance section.  (Don't minimize the game; just put it into windowed mode and let it run behind or next to the TM.)  The integrated chip may always have some load, but the Nvidia card won't have any load unless the game is using it.
