How do I recover deleted save

Hey all! So I had made 2 households yesterday with the sims and deleted one of them (they are both in the same world) when I logged back on later that night I had found my other save to be deleted as well. I have gone through hours of threads, videos, and posts nothing has helped. There are no save backups or anything. ALL GONE.

Some good news is that I have a way to recover files (I am on Windows 10) but I am not about to spend mothers day looking through 400GB of files. The software I am using is disk drill.

So I am asking two things.

1. Can I even recover these with a file recovery software, if so how? And where would the deleted files be?
2. Is there any other way to recover these bad boys? They don't seem to be anywhere on my PC.

@GooglyGoodGaming You have to understand how a delete file works. First did you delete the files in the game or did you go into the save game folder and delete them. If you used the operating system (Windows) the files should be in the waste basket. If you deleted them in the game, the game probably used the operating system to delete the files by passing the waste basket. Once a file is "deleted" it is marked as open space so it is wise to recover as soon as possible before that free space is used by another program. Once another program has used the space or even part of the space the file may (probably) be beyond recovery. There are programs out there that will look for and undelete files. One of the first 3 words in computer I learned are backup, backup, and backup. To manually undelete a file you will need a program that can read AND write the file allocation table. I do not recommend a casual user to try the manual method as it is possible to damage the operating system image and leave you with a non working system. Remember the sooner you try to undelete a file your chances are better.

If the device is a ssd once the deleted file is trimmed it will be unrecoverable.

  • @GooglyGoodGaming  If you want to try recovering the save, you're looking for a file labeled Slot_xxxxxxxx.save , where the x's are replaced with an eight-digit hexidecimal number.  You can also search your computer for Slot_ and see what, if anything, turns up.  As an example, the first save you make in a given user folder will be labeled Slot_00000002.save, and the game will count upwards from there.  The files with a .verx on the end of their names are backups of the save with the same number.

Just so you know, two households that are in the same world and progress alongside each other are actually part of the same save.  If the households progress independently, for example you play one world until sim-Tuesday and when you switch to the other, it's still sim-Sunday, they're separate saves.
