How to fix Sims 4 game

I've been having this issue for a while now, but I thought I had somehow fixed it a while ago since my Sims 4 game had suddenly started actually launching again when I clicked launch. Today it was working perfectly fine and I launched and exited the game a couple of times throughout the day already, but about an hour ago, I closed it again. When I had just gone to re-launch the game to play for a bit, It seems to have started doing the same thing as before.

I'll click launch in the EA app (or even double-click the Sims 4 icon on my desktop to launch the game) and nothing will happen but it will say the game is running.

I'm not sure If having mods does anything to it, but I have a mod for the MCCC downloaded and I had just finished going into the game options to turn on cc and mods to be allowed so I had to turn off the game and re-launch to make it work, but it's not working once again, as I've explained above. If anyone knows anything I can do to fix this, please tell me because It would be much appreciated to have some help.

p.s, to save anyone from asking beforehand, yes I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it many times trying to fix this. As well as repair the game, delete the EA app then reinstall it, restart the EA app times, and used the app recovery. I hope this is enough details about my situation to have someone be able to help, but If not, I can only hope it'll start working on it own again soon.

  • @XavierW25 and @BeccaMcFetti  If the game worked with a clean folder in place, the next step is testing your mods and custom content.  You can do so a few at a time, or if you have a lot of files to sort through, use the 50/50 method:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

Once you've sorted through the mods and cc, you can add the contents of the saves and Tray folders to the new Sims 4 folder, plus Screenshots if those matter to you, and pick up where you left off.  Saves and Tray files are unlikely to prevent the game from running at all, so they're probably not the issue here.

@XavierW25  I think Proton VPN is just a VPN without any additional antivirus features.  But I could be wrong about that; I haven't really looked into it.  If it does include an antivirus, and you find you can't add any mods or cc to the game at all, even newly-downloaded files, try setting exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and EADesktop.exe.

  • @XavierW25  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  If you get an error when trying to move the folder, or it copies rather than moving, try pausing OneDrive syncing.  The option shows up when you right-click the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.  Then try moving the Sims 4 folder again.

Otherwise, when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, it's worth pausing OneDrive syncing, as above.

If that doesn't make a difference either, please let me know what antivirus you use, if any.

@BeccaMcFetti I've just got on today and I was actually thinking it might be that a while ago so I deleted all my cc and mods and it didn't stop. Once I did get it back open, however, I added the MCCC mod back on and had to shut down the game again, which led to this post being made for help

@BeccaMcFetti  Check the saves folder for the Sims 3 folder you moved.  If you don't find anything there, open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter Slot_ in the search field in the upper-right corner.  If the scan finds any saves, right-click one and select "Open file location," and you'll jump to wherever the save is, which will also hopefully be where your other saves are.

If you've ever had OneDrive running on this computer, check onedrive.com too (while signed into your Microsoft account), both "My files" and the recycle bin.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you so much!! I got so scared I had lost all my saved files but they went to my recycling bin rather than my desktop for some reason. When I played with a new load it was working perfectly fine. it launched and exited fast and I didn't have any problems with anything crashing or failing to launch so now I'm going to try with my original saved files and see if it's my MC command center like @BeccaMcFetti
