I’m getting the black screen of death.

When I go to start up The Sims, it begins to process and then immediately turns my monitor’s screen black. I was playing less than 48 hours ago with zero issues. I have repaired both the actual game and EA. I have cleared the cache from both of them as well. I even went above and beyond and just uninstalled EA and The Sims entirely thinking if I just started fresh, all would be well. I’ve tried everything and I’m at loss here. I will say; I had mods in my game but as soon as I noticed this was happening, they were the first things removed from my PC entirely.

I have been having the same issues with the black screen as well. The game launches, music plays, it is just the screen that is not working for the game. I don't have any CC though, but I've tried to link my EA acount with Steam (not working because my brother also linked it with his Steam account), I reinstalled The Sims 4 multiple times by now, done everything I could, but I don't know what to do anymore.

  • So today I finally updated the game from the recent update. I was able to play a fraction of the game. I was able to create a sim, move them in a place then decorate a bit. Then my game caused my 2 monitors to go black, then came back and went to white. I have no mods, I didn’t add them back after the update in preparation for the expansion release on Thursday.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you get another black screen, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
