Infinite Saving in Build/Buy

Platform: PC (Windows 11)
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Almost every time (80% of the time)
What is your current game version number? 1.111.102.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All EPs except Life & Death, All SPs, All GP except for Star Wars, Kits: Country Kitchen, Courtyard Oasis, Industrial Loft, Blooming Rooms, Carnavale Streetwear, Little Campers, Desert Luxe, Pastel Pop, Bathroom Clutter, Greenhouse Haven, Book Nook, Poolside Splash, Modern Luxe, Castle Estate, Riveria Retreat, and Cozy Bistro
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to decorate a lot
What happens when the bug occurs? After placing an item, when I try to switch to Live mode, the game freezes. If I hit save while in build/buy mode, the game will get stuck on saving. No LE or error codes are produced.
What do you expect to see? I should be able to go back and forth between build/buy and live mode without any game freezing or infinite saving
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes, but I tried without and it still happens

I have been having this issue for several months. At first I thought it was a DX11 issue because it started when DX11 was in the testing phase. Running on DX9 solved it at that time. Now that DX11 is default, even when I force the game to run in DX9, the problem still occurs or I get other game crashes and errors while running DX9. Therefore, I am currently running on DX11.

Also, if I notice the object disappears when I try to place it, I immediately exit the game and remove that cc item, clear the cache, and restart the game. I never play with the Off-the-grid lot trait.

I do not have OneDrive installed. My graphics card drivers are all up-to-date along with all of my other computer drivers. I meet the minimal requirements for the game and have ample space in terms of RAM and hard disk space to run the game. I am running on a gaming desktop computer. I am not using any gshade or reshade applications.

When this happens, I do not get any error codes nor are any error files produced (LastCrash nor LEs).

When I encounter this issue, I end the program using Task Manager. I check for any error files. I then clear the game cache (deleting the following: localthumbcache, avatarcache, onlinethumbnailcache folder, cache folder (if present)).

I have not tested this on any of my older saves because the lovestruck patch deformed my sims' eyes and thus faces, so all of these issues are with new save files and new sims as I wait for a fix for the eye bugs.

1.This started when I was trying to edit a lot I downloaded from the gallery into the Lovestruck map. It happened with cc present and without cc present. It happened when placing pack items and it happened when placing base-game items. I tried using a different lot in the Lovestruck map. The problem continued.I tried using a different gallery download residential building on the new lot - the problem still occurred.

2. I started saving after I made any individual change to decor. If problem occurred, I would remove that piece of cc, clear cache, and try again. When I encountered it happening with EA items, I thought it was a lot or map issue.

3. I started a new save. I tried using a pre-existing EA residential lot in Tartosa, the problem seemed to occur less often, but still occurred (about 50% of time). I tried a clean Sims folder and game repair (Reapers Rewards event was completely reset - I got majorly annoyed and stopped playing the game).

4. Came back to the game after a few weeks, I started a new save. I created new sims from scratch. I tried using a pre-existing EA residential lot in Get Famous map. Problem occurred. I tried with a clean Sims folder, problem still occurred. I tried a game repair (all of my progress on the cozy event was reset). Problem still occurs.

This is the description of the error in the Reliability Monitor: The program TS4_x64.exe version 1.111.102.1030 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

There is nothing showing up in Problem History in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

I am out of ideas on what to do. It happens with mods and cc and without mods and cc. It happens with pack items and base-game items. It is happening on multiple maps, different lots, different lot types, EA builds and custom builds. It happens after I run on a clean Sims folder with a brand new save. It happens after the game repair on a brand new save. I have attached my DxDiag.txt file in case that tells you anything useful.

  • @irishdragon7  To be totally clear, does this happen in a new save in a clean folder, with no mods or custom content present, if you only use premade houses and sims and/or build/create your own?  As in, you're also not adding anything from the Gallery or your previous Tray folder?  I ask because a number of Gallery builds have broken since the For Rent patch, and it's impossible to tell which are affected without testing them.

If you're using Gallery items or anything from your Tray, please test without.

If that doesn't help, or you're not using any other content, please try playing in a clean boot:

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If the clean boot helps, start selectively reenabling services until you find the problem.

If you get another crash, please repeat the text except with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If going offline helps, test with only the EA App in offline mode but with your computer online overall.

Thank you for your reply. I will try this method. I honestly have done this so many times by the time I wrote the post, I am not certain I ran it the way you recommend. I will test this and let you know what happens.

I would also like to wish you a happy New Year and thank you for volunteering your time and expertise to helping the community. I really appreciate helpers like you, @crinrict , and @luthienrising  Please take care.

I apologize for the delay but I wanted to finish the cozy rewards before I tried this. Your suggestion worked so now I get to figure out which lot(s) and/or saves are corrupt. yippee (sarcasm).

Thank you very much for you help, I really appreciate it. Take care!
