Initialization error at start up

I was moving some files around on my PC to make some space but then things started malfunctioning and I moved everything back to it's original place. Everything else started working normally again, other than the Sims. Now when I try to open it, it says

Unable to start: Initialization error at start up. [135dec40:29f00e76:00000083:b032c32e]

I've tried:

- Uninstalling and reinstalling EA

- Uninstalling and reinstalling The Sims 4

- 'Repairing' the Sims 4

- 'Repairing' EA

- Using Ccleaner

- Restarting my PC

- Running the sims as an administrator

- Running EA as an administrator

- Opening the sims from the file named TS4_x64

None of this has helped and I still get the same error.

I would really appreciate any advice.

  • @KAYDALAYA  To be thorough, please temporarily disable your antivirus and repair the game (again).  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe, and you can reenable the AV as soon as you figure out whether the game works.

If that doesn't help, please create a new admin Windows account on this computer and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  (Just keep declining until you can proceed without one.)  You'll be able to try to launch the game without reinstalling anything, but any saves or other user data you have won't be available.  That's fine for the purposes of this test and can be addressed later if necessary.

  • @KAYDALAYA  This error is typically antivirus-related, so please set exceptions in yours for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the entire Bin folder they're in.

If that doesn't help, where is TS4_x64 currently located?  Please right-click it and select Properties > General, then post the Location.  If you're using a desktop shortcut, right-click that and select Show original (or similar; I'm not in front of Windows right now), which will jump you to the original, and you can right-click that to get its location.

Please also check the location of the game install in the EA App, under Sims 4 > Manage < View properties.  Let me know whether it's the same as the location of TS4_x64, at least up to the Sims 4 folder.

    Hi,

Thank you so much for your advice.

I made the 'bin' folder an exception in my anti-virus programme but that hasn't seemed to help, it still came up with the error.

The TS4_x64 folder location is... E:\Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

The Sims 4 install location is... E:\Games\The Sims 4

    It worked!!

    Thank you so much!

I have been in contact with EA support 4 times and you have been significantly more helpful than them.
