Is it possible to restore game data through Origin?

I recently bought the Sims 4 and the Cats and Dogs extension pack discs, and I downloaded the game (+extension pack) with codes onto my laptop with Origin. I played the game for around a week and progressed a lot and I was very excited to get to play the Sims after so long. But then I accidentally dropped my laptop. At first it seemed okay from the outside (the back plastic was cracked, the front plastic around the screen came off and the keyboard popped out a small bit). So then I popped the keyboard back in place and taped what i could back on (because I really loved this computer).

As I started it up, the computer showed the normal screen of the brand of computer and the company's logo/slogan etc. etc. but then the computer switched to its emergency mode screen, and from there I ran a full diagnostics test and it told me the hard drive was either broken or disconnected, so I couldn't get to any of my laptops data at all, and I didn't have an external hard drive to back anything up.

So, tl;dr, I know you can re download the sims game onto another PC using origin, but if OI had not previously saved any data to the cloud, is it possible at all to get my game data back, or do I have to start new? If so, if the hard drive can be backed up, will the data files be retrievable in anyway? (sorry this turned into a small essay, and thank you!!)

  • Hi @zarunohn,

Sorry to read about your laptop. Unfortunatelly, save games for The Sims 4 are not stored in Origin cloud, so it's not possible to recover them from there. ☹️

If you somehow can get the files from the hard drive, your saved games are stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves. You can just copy the contents from there to your new computer.
If you want to restore as many things as possible, copy the whole The Sims 4 folder from the broken computer to your new one - this way you will get back screenshots, items stored in your library, etc. as well.

Let us know if you have any more questions, and good luck,
