Lost progress from moving game folder

Hi!

My issue right now is that my brother moved my origin games, sims 4 and electronic arts folders from local disk to the new volume folder for more space. But because of this, all of my game process and saves are gone, (besides the sims and builds I uploaded to the gallery), although I still have the files from my saved games, I’m not sure how to restore my game while keeping these folders in the volume folder.

Due to this reason of switching from disk to volume, I had to redownload the sims 4 game along with several of my packs, and I haven’t been able to play the game in a while because of this.

I also noticed that my Electronic arts folder can’t be found/ is shown as the Sims 4 folder, but only if I search it in the windows bar..? I don’t know, but I would really appreciate it if someone were to try and help out! Thanks. 🙂

  • @magdalenaR  Are you saying the game currently doesn't load at all, or is the only issue that your saves don't show up?  For the saves, they need to be in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves, and your other user content (saved households and builds, mods and custom content) need to be in that same Sims 4 folder.  If you move that folder, or the Electronic Arts folder it's in, the game won't be able to find the data and will create a new folder with no content.

If you want to store your saves and other content in a different location, you can use a symbolic link to tell the game where to look.  Here's how:

    (Windows)

    (Mac)

Make sure you back up your saves and anything else you wouldn't want to lose before starting the process.

The game works fine, it’s just all my saves are gone after I moved my Electronic Arts folder:

@camellia2k7  Please post a screenshot of the Command Prompt window showing the command you're entering and the result.  Please also list the location where you'd like your user folder.

Finally, please list the location of your Documents directory, as Windows sees it.  You can find it by entering this in Command Prompt:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"
