You must update your mods or you could break more.
I too am having this issue. And I've updated all my mods to the newest already, and this all started after getting seasons installed. Like someone else said, the households I've been playing very often are working fine, but the ones I haven't played in ages for some reason are getting the error.

I did do this. I updated everything already, and I spent 3 hours removing mods to test my game. Finally, it seems that I located the issue (apparently it was a faulty mod), so i removed it. Now most of my games are working again. But the thing is, there is still ONE that is giving me that SAME error.
And it happens to be the family that had the error to begin with.
Now, the mod I got rid of was one where my teen sim quits high school and gets a full time job.
The family that is getting the error is the family that had this mod on it.

I've had something like this happen in one of my game saves after moving my mods folder, I cleared my game cache deleted the localthumbcache.package from my Sims 4 folder. Tried saving the game again, but used Save As, instead of save.
It makes a new saved game, but at least the family was playable again. Hopefully that works for you!!
