My cloudsync folder full of .user, .lastsync, and .back files?

Hi,

I moved my Sims 4 game from my 2nd HD to my 3rd HD, now my game won't sync my names saves or anything at all.

There's currently nothing in my Sims 4 saves folder but going to C/user/appdata/local/ElectronicArts/EaDesktop/CloudSync there's files.

There's 6 .USER files, 6 .LASTSYNC files and 1 .BACK file. I'm not sure if these are all for the Sims as I own 2, 3, 4 and have played them all in the past but only have Sims 4 downloaded and just found out my save file is gone, or even for the Sims at all since I have a few other EA titles downloaded.

The files have different amount of numbers in them (example) 00000_00000, 00000_0000000, 00000000_00000000.

So, is there a way to find out if any of the file types above are Sims files or if there's another file path I could search to see if they're there?

So far I've checked:
-C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\cloudsync
-C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Origin\Cloud Saves
-C:\Users\User\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 (All the folders have nothing related to saves)
All of my Origin, Steam, save file folders, etc.

Any solutions or ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

@xXSalibathXx  Thanks for the screenshot.  Those files are all several orders of magnitude too small to be Sims 4 saves, and probably too small to contain any meaningful data at all.  I'm not actually sure what they're for, but I can ask around if you're curious.

You can still search your computer for any stray Sims 4 saves.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter Slot_ in the search field in the upper-right corner.  If the search finds any saves, select one and click the "Open file location" menu button, and you'll jump to where the saves are.  From there, you can move them back to the correct folder.

If you don't find any saves there, and there aren't any uploaded to OneDrive (which can happen automatically, so please check), then they're unfortunately gone.

  • @xXSalibathXx  Sims 4 saves are stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves, and there should at least be a saves folder present even if it's empty.

For the files in appdata, they sound like they're related to cloud storage of other save data, but from what I understand, this feature still doesn't work for any Sims game.  (It's for games that have much smaller save files, typically adventure/shooter/RPG/sports types.)  If you'd like to check, please post a screenshot of the files you're asking about, with the File Explorer window in Detail mode so I can see the file sizes and modified dates.

@puzzlezaddictI checked that folder and there is the saves folder and it is empty indeed.

I'll attach a screenshot of the appdata cloudsync folder files.

    Thank you for your reply!

@puzzlezaddictHi there again, thanks for the info! If you wouldn't mind seeing what those files are so I can make know what they are, that'd be great!

I didn't find any Sims 4 Slot_ files unfortunately so I'll check out my OneDrive.

I appreciate the information and help! 🙂

    Hi @xXSalibathXx

I think I can help shed some light!

Those are cache files the EA app is using to help it keep track of the most recent cloud saves for your games. So when the EA app is cloud syncing game saves, it'll create those files so it can reference them.

    Hey there,

I don't know the exact specifics, but it's just part of the system the client uses to keep track of cloud saves. Those files are there to help it keep track of the saves.
