My files are deleting themselves when i play

Hi, to start off I don't have any mods or cc and my game is updated.

So, I play on my pc and for about a week each time i stared my game I noticed my computer asked me if I really wanted to delete hundreds of files to which i said no and to keep them (only sims4 files)

I then went on my onedrive and noticed lots of files had been deleted so i restored them. I then restarted my game and same message about deleting hundreds of files and some of them still ended up in my onedrive trashcan.

I even noticed some clothes and counters and other things disappeared in my game, I played yesterday and everything was there (the counters were the new basegame ones) but i checked and I've already restored all files from my onedrive trashcan.

Please help ! has this ever happened to anyone ? Is it a computer or a game issue?

  • The problem is that you are using One Drive. I used to use it for backups which for the Sims 4 took forever and the program did delete files without my permission. It was impossible to completely get rid of it so what I do now is to block it. It tries to come back every time I have to reboot so I make sure to turn it off if I have to restart my computer. This does not remove any of the other files on Word that are saved as backups to One Drive. I recommend you turn One Drive off.  I also changed my save file to a different location and combed through One Drive to get rid of any files it was backing up for my Sim games.

  • One Drive is nasty for any games that you play infrequently. It deleted some game files from my Steam game saves and I cannot recover them because I always said yes to file deletions.

    Sorry for the delayed answer

Thanks so much for the help, I ended up deactivating one drive every time i turn on my computer so that it doesn't happen again.

    Sorry for the delayed answer.

I ended up doing just that and it doesn't happen anymore.

  • Kiana171  If your user folder isn't inside OneDrive, you shouldn't need to deactivate OneDrive every time.  Or you could unlink your PC from OneDrive entirely.  Without a link, it can't touch your data.

Let me know if you need further help.
