My game is unplayable after installing a new pack

Hi everyone!  I have not picked up the game since last October, so it's been a little shy of a year since I played last, and it ran perfectly last time.  I own the Cats & Dogs pack and the Tiny Living stuff pack.  I just recently installed the TL pack the same day I started playing the game again, but not sure if Cats & Dogs automatically updated or not since I last played.  I have not changes any settings on my computer, or hardly touched it for that matter in the year I stopped playing, so I have a feeling that one of the packs might causing my issue.

When I load up a brand new game, the screen goes white and acts as if it's loading, I even get the spinning cursor in the middle, but it doesn't go past that screen.  The game will not even close down properly after I get this screen, so I'm forced to shut down the whole computer just to exit the game and try again.  I was able to play on older saves for a couple of days and go on build mode (without playing with a sim or placing a household).  Now, if I exit build mode and play on my lot, no menus appears on the top, no cameras, no notifications, nothing.  I can click on the buttons, but none of the menus appear or drop down.  Also the game is just permanently stuck on pause when it finally loads in, and I can't unpause it because of the whole no menus issue.

I'm relatively new to playing on PC versus console, so the only thing I can think to do is uninstall everything, including all packs and mods, and just starting fresh.  I'd like to avoid that if I could, though but anything to make the game playable at this point.  I would appreciate any and all help!  Thank you!

  • @bmpuntney  That definitely sounds like a mods issue.  Please move your entire Mods folder to the desktop, delete localthumbcache.package, and test.  You don't need to save  your progress, so don't worry about missing content in your existing saves.

If the game works as normal again, you can start adding back your mods and custom content.  But rather than using your old mods, please look for updated versions.  Several patches in the last year have had a significant effect on mods, and it's unlikely that any given mod from October would work now.  So rather than testing them all and ditching most, it will be easier to just find new versions confirmed compatible with the current patch (1.79).
