Sims4 too laggy to play

This only started in the last couple of weeks before it was completely fine. Out of nowhere the game has been unbearably laggy to the point I can't even turn the screen or click the three dots in the upper right corner. This happens in live mode and build mode and occurs as soon as I open the game. When I start a new game, I also get a message at start up saying 'unrecognized video card' I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

I have tried everything

  • removing all cc and mods
  • Lowering all graphic settings to the lowest
  • Started a completely new game and save
  • all drives and laptop are updated
  • uninstalling and reinstalling the game
  • repairing game

My laptop is brand new and meets the system requirements. I appreciate it if anyone can help.

  • VampireLuna3  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • VampireLuna3  Please disable Game Mode and Game Bar, both under Windows Settings > Gaming.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean boot:

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.

If the game freezes or crashes in a clean boot, please try again, except with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

  • Thank you so much I tried disabling game mode and game bar, I played for a couple hours testing it and it seems to be all fixed now. Thank you again for your help.

Hi, Unfortunately the problem started again so I tried the clean boot method and it was still lagging really bad both in online and offline mode. Do you know anything else I can try? Thanks.

  • VampireLuna3  I'd like a new dxdiag, and let me know as well what GPU is listed in Config.log, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  The GPU entry is about 30 lines down.

  • For the last week or two out of nowhere my sims4 game has become so laggy you can't even move the screen or click the three dots in the upper right corner. Also, when I start a new game, I get a video card unrecognized message pop up. I don't know if the two are related. It was completely fine before; I have a brand-new laptop with the right specs to run the sims4. Please if anyone could help, I would really appreciate it, I feel like I've tried everything.

I have also attached my dxiag. I am not good at reading them so I'm not sure if anything is wrong.

  • can anyone please help me I have severe lagging in the Sims4 in Live mode and Build mode it only started a couple of weeks ago. It happens as soon as I open the game and it's so bad I can barely move the screen, press anything or even click the three dots in the upper right corner. This problem seemed to have just appeared out of nowhere and was all fine before. I have a brand-new laptop with the right specs to run the game, and the lagging appears with and without mods. I have tried everything, and I don't know what else to do. I have also attached my dxdiag I don't really know what I'm looking at so if anyone could tell me if there is anything wrong, I would appreciate it.

This is what I have tried

    • reinstalling the game and starting a new game
    • tested game in clean boot online and offline
    • clear cached
    • repaired game and Ea app
    • removed folder and started a new game
