My game keeps crashing

I play on PC and I've had more crashes in the last week than I've ever had with the sims 4. I've had crashes both when going from build mode to live mode and while trying to save my game, both BB and Live modes. The game crashes without any message or error code. Today it just froze. I've tried removing all mods and cc, repairing countless times, reinstalling my game, starting in new saves but nothing works. The game is totally unplayable since the last update.

Edit July 1st: I've done some asking around with other simmers and some of the people experiencing simliar issues said that they got their issues after a Windows 11 update. As I recall I updated Windows around the same time that I updated my game. So I'm not sure which update is wreaking havoc on my game or what to do about it.

  • Avanjo  I've moved your post to the PC tech forum.  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Thank you for your help. The dxdiag is attached now. Let me know if anything else is needed.

  • Avanjo  If you think this might have been triggered by a Windows update, see whether you can roll it back.  Given when you initially posted, you may or may not still have the option.

The Sims 4 crashes in your dxdiag are pretty generic—they can be triggered by anything from broken mods to an in-game bug to a bad graphics driver.  Since you're not currently using mods or cc, and there was an update today, I would run the update and then another repair just to be as thorough as possible, and test again, in a new save with fresh sims on a default EA-made lot.

If you get another crash after that, try installing a newer graphics driver.  I wouldn't go with the newest one because I've seen a couple reports of issues with it, although that doesn't mean the driver itself is bad.  But it's easy to install a slightly older one and update later.  You can get older drivers here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

Choose Game Ready Driver under Download Type to be able to go back further.  I'd try the one from March 18 first, then the next one if that doesn't help.  Your current driver is from last year, so you don't have to do anything special to install one of these.

When installing the driver, run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Choose the Custom (not Express) install method, and check the box to perform a clean install.  Restart your computer afterwards and before trying to play.
