My sims 4 game won't launch on my computer, it just doesnt start! Help!

Do you know what I can do? I've tried many searches but none seem to help...

My sims game is connected on Steam and EA, but every time I try to launch it it doesn't open, the button to play it buffers a bit and returns to play. I have used Windows Powershell administrator to see if there is an issue with my files, but nothing came up. Every website says to repair my game on EA but how do I do that in the new updated app? I have poured money into this game and it is incredibly frustrating that it will not launch ☹️((((

my processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GHz 2.40 GHz

my system type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

  • @ellie555rose  You can try the last driver Dell offered for your laptop, but it's barely newer than your current one.

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/latitude-3340-laptop/drivers

Since your current driver and this one are both from 2019, they're getting to the point where they may not be compatible with Sims 4 or other apps you might want to run.  It is in fact best to use the manufacturer-provided driver up to a point, but that only applies when a suitable driver is available, and I think this one might not be.  But there's no harm in trying it first, then updating to the generic Intel driver if it doesn't work.  And a clean install, as recommended, should be sufficient to get the Intel driver installed, but let me know if it's not.

If the Intel driver doesn't help either, please post the new Reliability Monitor error info.

  • @ellie555rose  To repair the game, open your App game library and select Sims 4 > Manage > Repair.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Thank you for your reply, I can't select repair in the EA app, my only option is to manage add-ons (image attached). I tried moving the folder from the electronic arts documents folder, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I have the dxdiag report. It is attached. Thank you again.

@ellie555rose  Your dxdiag crashed while running, which could simply be a random glitch.  Still, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, click Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Next, please install the newest graphics driver available for your processor.  It's from 2021 but should still work better than what you currently have installed.

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/81016/intel-core-i54210u-processor-3m-cache-up-to-2-70-ghz/downloads.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart after installing and before trying to play.

To repair, open Steam and select Properties, then Local files (or something similar), then "Verify integrity of the game files."

@puzzlezaddict The message I received after running “sfc /scannow” was Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32>
I am restarting now, and checking for updates, will install graphics driver also and let you know it it works! Thank you for your help.

This message appeared (attached) when I tried to install the driver and run it as an admin. Do you think I should follow these instructions?: This error occurs on Intel® 5th Generation Core Processors or Older Processors when a driver installed from your computer manufacturer (OEM) prevents the system from updating from an OEM driver to a generic Intel driver.

We advise you to always get the latest driver from your computer manufacturer.

However, if your computer manufacturer no longer provides new drivers or you prefer to install a newer Intel generic driver, you can perform a clean installation of a generic Intel® Graphics Driver.

Caution: Be aware that you risk system instability, losing functionality, or causing other technical issues that OEM drivers seek to resolve or enable.
