New Careers won't let sims be promotes.

I just started playing a new sim character with the athlete career and it cannot be promoted even with cheat. I can watch his job progress reach full while he is at work  and the little check mark shows that he will get the promotion. However once he comes home the bar resets and he doesn't get promoted. Is there anything else I can do to make him be promoted besides the cheat? Or do I need to wait till they fix this glich?
