No mods and lunching problem after update.

I am also having difficulties after installing the new update. My mods don't work at all. I don't get an error or anything, they just don't run. If I go into the Mods list, they are all there. Also, when I start the game, the whole loading screen is dim, with a couple of while lines crossing diagonally, like laser beam. When I get to the mail menu, it's still dim, and all the boxes are outlined in multiple white lines, and have a "mesh" of white lines in them making everything unreadable. I tried removing all my mods. No change. Rebooting didn't help. I accidentally discovered that mods or no mods, if I do an Alt-Tab, sometimes that will clear it up for that session.

  • cattwood3  Which problems still exist with your Mods folder removed?

The alt-tab issue is a problem with the (now default) DirectX 11 version of Sims 4.  You can get around it by playing in windowed mode, or by switching back to DirectX 9.  For the latter, if you can reach the Main Menu and open the Options menu, DX9 is an option with the other graphics settings.  If you can't, open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx9 in the command line box.

Switching to DX9 may fix the graphical glitches as well; please do test with no mods or custom content present.  Regardless of whether this helps, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Switching to DX9 resolved both my issues. Thank you so much.

  • cattwood3  That's great to hear; thanks for the update.  If you'd like to try to get DX11 mode working, please post a dxdiag.  I've seen similar reports from a few other players and would like to start comparing hardware and drivers.
