No mods or cc, won't launch, corrupted files

Hello all!

I am having some problems with my Sims 4. I have several packs and everything was working fine until the last update with the Life & Death features. I noticed the game would launch but with a window and would eventually crash. Eventually, Sims wouldn't launch at all and would instead show a flash of a full black screen, then full white, then black again until it settled on a full white, windowed app of TS4.

I have cleared the EA cache, I don't sync with OneDrive, and TS4 is running on NVIDIA rather than Intel i7. I have repaired the files several times, and each time the files need to be repaired. I've uninstalled and redownloaded the game. I am at a loss on what to do next, and I'd really appreciate some help before the new expansion pack comes out. My other games on both Steam and EA run fine except for TS4.

I am using a HP Victus 13th Gen Intel i7-13700HX, 32 GB RAM. It is fairly new and has never given me problems running my games.

Thank you in advance for your guidance and help!

  • I am having a big issue here. Since Saturday, Sims 4 does not want to launch. I am on a gaming laptop working with Windows 11. Whenever I try to open the game, the page just glitches from white to black but stays frozen on a white blank page. I cannot close or do anything with the app after. I played the Sims 4 on Friday night and everything was working just fine, so I don't know what happened. I have tried everything that I have seen so far on forums. I have cleaned the cache, I repaired the game, I deleted the game and reinstalled it, I deleted the EA app and reinstalled it again, I have removed the Mods file from the Sims 4 file, I have moved the Sims 4 file from the Electronic Arts to my Desktop, I have run a DxDiag test, I looked if my laptop as the requirements to run Sims 4 and NOTHING works. When I'm telling you that I am desperatly turning crazy, I truly am. I'm justoverall confused and don't know what to do anymore. Can somebody help me or suggest me what to do? I BEG of you. ☹️

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to your reply.

@Jessicaninou  I've merged your post with another thread about this issue.  Please see the above.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I did run a DxDiag report and attached it to a report for EA support but I only received an email saying I should go to Answer HQ... I feel like ever since the app change from Origin to EA, there's just tons of problems and we cannot even have assistance and / or talk to a real person for help. I don't know what to do, I just want to play my game. 😢

Hello @puzzlezaddict! Thank you for your time and help. I've been consulting your other posts before posting on the forum and I feel really lucky to have your help!

I disabled the display settings as instructed. It did not help.

I tried using both NVIDIA and Intel from the graphics setting and neither resolved the issue.

Attached is my dxdiag, as instructed.

Thank you again for your help!

EDIT: I tried to launch my game again with the Intel graphics setting... it launches, but launches as a windowed game rather than full screen which is what it did prior to crashing earlier this week. I am going to try and download my packs (I had been downloading only the base game so I could monitor it's repair and launch without downloading all 49 of my packs) and repost here with an update.

    Hi @puzzlezaddict!

Thank you for your help. I am able to run TS4 when manually setting the graphics setting to Intel and making it stay there... it was changing based on performance settings before.

As of right now, my game launches like normal with all packs except for it being windowed, which I changed in-game under "Options".

Again, I appreciate your continued help not only for me but for, what I've seen, many other simmers! 🙂

@soylentgwen  You should be able to play on the Nvidia GPU, and that's kind of the point of having such a powerful laptop.  Does Sims 4 work again now that you've run it on the Intel iGPU for a bit?  Please test and let me know.

You can also force DX9 mode for the Nvidia GPU (it's being used already for the Intel GPU) through the EA App.  Open your game library, select Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx9 to the command line box.  You shouldn't need to do this, but it's a better workaround than being limited to integrated graphics.

@Jessicaninou  Please attach the dxdiag to a reply here.  Make sure you use Reply, not Quick Reply, and that the dxdiag is saved as a file ending in .txt.  Additionally, please choose one forum, either this one or the newer EA forums, to use, so that we don't end up having the same conversation in two places.
