Paintings Disappearing from Lots When Uploaded to Gallery

I have had a couple of individuals report to me, and I have since confirmed on my end, that they are uploading lots feature some of my paintings, that my paintings disappeared when they upon uploading their lots, leaving a bunch of awkward blank walls around the home.  To the best of my knowledge, these users do play test their lots before upload - the problem doesn't seem to present itself until the lot is uploaded.  I currently don't have a lot of data to help me narrow down the problem but I'm still hopeful someone out there might have an idea BEFORE I get dozens of people all reporting to me that my stuff isn't working :D.

Facts:

1) I create NoCC custom paintings using Paint-from Reference, and only started this within the last month.

2) My creations/images are generated completely in-game, meaning I am not importing outside images or messing with the files AT ALL.

3) I only use 2 mods: "Set Filters on Paintings by Reference v2" and "Paint From Reference Anywhere", that latter requiring me to enable script mods.

4) This problem isn't consistent, and I've only had 2 reports so far but found a 3rd person w/ my hashtag search and they seem to have the same problem since I don't actually see any of my work there but there are some suspicious blank wall spaces.

5) All 3 people are uploading lots with Base Game only, however other players have successfully shared a lot using BG only and my paintings stayed.

6) I of course cannot duplicate the issue because it's not on my end but on theirs, but it's my problem because its my WORK to which it is happening.

7) I am #ItzSpiffy in the gallery if you want to check out these lots.  There are a handful of rooms that were uploaded that have no problem as well.

This seems to be really uncommon, as the most recent user explain she's never had the problem before.  I became quite down-heartened because I've gone out of my way to try to make my custom paintings truly original, by keeping it in game, and bringing the beauty of the scenery in the game into peoples homes without having to do it on the back of other artists whose images crop up in google......and something is going wrong.  Not sure why people can upload countless unnamed artworks off of Google and have no problems but I'm facing issues right out of the gate.  I have noticed a handful of other users doing something similar (not outsourcing images/editing files), but of course I don't know if they ever experience this.

I am going to be switching to Photography for a bit, to see if the problem was just with Paintings, but this is a bummer since photographs have clunkier frames and of course I've already created 1200 or so works with my previous method.

  • Alright well I've been able to eliminate the problem it seems.  The problem was the mod "Paint From Reference Anywhere" (which gave me the PFR option on a sim's inventory camera), which explains why this problem is new to some veteran sims, since most uploaders are creating their paintings via staging or file editing while I go out into various scenic locations and snap photos on the go, which my sim then has to paint on an easel back at home, and somewhere in the middle something is going a bit sideways.  I tested this by uploading a photograph and a standard painting-from-reference with this mod removed from my game, and the other person said they retained their value and stayed put.  For whatever reason, paintings done with this script mod show up as zero value in the homes of SOME users which resulted in them being purged. So there is still very much a mystery as to why this problem isn't consistent, however for my intents and purposes the problem is resolved as I do have an alternative solution.  The reason some of them didn't disappear is because those users didn't play test the lot.  If I download their lots I can see the paintins, but they also disappear when I leave the lot and come back.

Going forward this just means that for me to continue with my technique, I can't use "PFR Anywhere v2" by Scumbumbo and therefore I need to switch to Photography where I don't have to use an easel.  This means I will have to deal with the larger frames and their wonky non-framed look.  If only we had more options for frames on photographs ☹️.  I'm also going to have to go-back and do some paint/photo-ception and make copies of my past works.

    The main Cause:

I've noticed that none of the painting information/description/metadata comes up on these paintings unless the mod is installed, so basically it becomes a bugged item with no value which the game purges.  I can observe this by hovering my cursor over the painting in play mode and it just shows a hand and cogwheel ONLY.  At one point I was playing around with some paintings and noticed that one of them got its value/information back, but I can't duplicate what I did (and it's driving me crazy).

  • HI @ItzSpiffy

have you tried if it also happens with painting without those mods installed ? Have you heard of other creators also being affected by this ?

  • It appears that if people have MODS DISABLED then the paintings download to their lot with a ZERO value, and then the game purges them when the lot is next entered by a Sim.  These paintings do not show up as CC, they do not tag a lot as CC, but they require MODS enabled in order for their value to work. I suspect that they would work for a player who simply allowed mods, without actually using any.  I also suspect that it's probably the "Paint from Reference Anywhere" Mod because the other mod that removes filters is incredibly common for painters because it enables players to remove the default grainy appearance of paintings.

I will update when I sort it out.

Maybe take this up with scumbumbo? They do list a couple issues that they are aware of so maybe they are connected ?

Thank you for that info. Scumbumbo will need to update the mod with the upcoming patch anyways. I think it would be good to let them know of the issue.
