Ps4 to Laptop

Hi I'm wanting to potentially get a laptop to play sims as my ps4 is dying and I really want to be able to get mods and cc so can anyone really discuss this with me like space storage all the things I'll need basic amounts of space or ram and like what that stuff means please?

  • PandaMaddie  Before going into hardware, I want to say that your DLC won't transfer from Playstation to PC.  You'd need to buy all your packs again if you wanted to use them.  Between that and the cost of a computer, you might decide it's better to get a PS5 and skip the mods and cc.

If you do want to play on PC, you'll need to decide how much money you'd like to spend on the laptop and what your goals are for performance.  I can usually find laptops that can run Sims 4 on medium graphics settings for at or under $400 U.S., a bit more in other countries.  Entry-level gaming laptops that can handle ultra settings are more like $700, or maybe $600 if I catch a good sale.  If you want to be picky about certain features, you might need to spend a bit more.  And there's value in the ~$500 segment too, with performance somewhere in between a gaming laptop and the cheapest workable option.

Once you know more or less what you're looking for, or at least how much you want to spend, I can tell you the best hardware in that segment.  There's no point in going through the details of one class of laptop if it's outside your budget in either direction.

Hi thanks for explaining that laptop is definitely the route I want to go because it's very hard for me to play on my ps4 with my eyesight and distance from the tv I just want something I can put on a table in front of and price wise I can save up gor a few months and have most likely around 800 so I feel like 800 and under is the reasonable price range and I'm a big builder and cas creator spend most of my time doing that and it's most likely the only game I'll have on it is sims and that's that'll it be used for but definitely a laptop as I don't have a desk!

  • PandaMaddie  Given the timing, I would suggest planning to buy the laptop in the beginning of November, for the pre-Black Friday sales.  $800 U.S. would allow you to be a bit selective, maybe getting a faster graphics card or a brighter screen than is standard in the $700 range, and you might still save some money compared to what's available at other times.

When you're ready to buy, feel free to post here again, either in this thread or in a new one, and I'll help you pick something out.  There's no point in doing that now because we have no idea what will be available then, let alone how the pricing is going to look.

Of course question so what type of lap top will I need to be looking at for this then amd graphic card is there any other stuff I'll need to find to be able to play sims and to game

  • PandaMaddie  You'll be able to afford a gaming laptop, and if your eyesight can be an issue, I would suggest getting a 16" or 17" screen.  In fact, if you live close to a Best Buy or Microcenter, I'd suggest visiting in person and getting a sense of what screen sizes would work for you.  There's a more limited selection at that size, but still enough for you to find something you like.

For the graphics card, you'll probably be looking at an RTX 4050.  A 4060 might be available for $800 during Black Friday sales, so don't ignore that, but the 4050 can still run Sims 4 on ultra graphics settings, so you'd be fine without the upgrade.  You don't need to worry about the processor because the laptop manufacturer will always use something that can more than keep up with the graphics card.  (No one wants to spend a pile of money on a fast GPU only to have it limited by a slow CPU, so the companies make sure that doesn't happen.)  You will want 16 GB RAM, but that's almost standard these days in all but the cheapest gaming laptops.

For storage, most people would be fine with a 500 GB drive, but see how much storage you're currently using and adjust accordingly.  There are certainly gaming laptops with a full terabyte, if you need that, just not as many, at least in this price segment.  And if you need bulk storage, you can always get an external drive—they're relatively cheap and universally compatible.  So don't cross off an otherwise-perfect laptop because it doesn't have room for your music or photo collection.  Just move that to an external and leave Sims 4 and its data on the internal drive.

And as I said, feel free to ask for specific recommendations when the time comes.
