Re: after every time i play my files corrupt and it doesnt let me repair them

@mnh0vekt7tay  It sounds like you're using the EA App right now.  I'd suggest reinstalling Origin and using it to run repairs, whether you still want to play through the EA App or not.

As for why this happens in the first place, what antivirus do you use?  It's possible the program is quarantining the game's .exe or flagging some other file(s) and therefore corrupting your install.

I'd also like to know the exact error message you're seeing when you try to play and can't.  (I recognize the "haywire" message already.)

Unfortunately Origin is officially discontinued, so unless there's a way to play the game without going through the EA App, it may be no use.

@sjbros814166  Origin is not yet officially sunset—many players can still use it, though not all.

Do you need help with something?  If so, please describe your issue in detail.

Hey! I saw you fixed the previous persons problem, and I am having the exact same one. My files corrupt every time I exit the game and then try to get on my save file. When I start a new one, it's fine. But then, when I back out and go back in, it's corrupted. I don't know how to repair my files, so I am not sure what to do. I started a new sims game completely and then moved over all of my files. That didn't fix it, so i'm not sure what to do now.

I think they've completely dropped origin by now, but I am not entirely sure. Do you have any advice?

  • @Veythryn jsyk, when i try to load into the gameplay, live mode specifically (i can get into build mode and neighborhood mode, just not live) it just gives me an infinite loading screen.

@Veythryn  Did you try a clean Sims 4 folder?  If not, please start there:  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.   (Your saves and other user content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save, play for a few minutes, save your progress, quit, restart your computer, and see whether you can load that new save again.

If the new save is corrupted too, please let me know what antivirus you use.  Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

The new game works properly, haven't had any issues with infinite loading screens or unplayable files. I have attached my DxDiag below. I honestly do not know what antivirus I have, as I literally have not touched anything already in the computer like that or downloaded any antiviruses myself.

@Veythryn  Please copy one of your saves, but nothing else, to the new Sims 4 folder, and see whether it gets corrupted again.  Since you're copying rather than moving the save, you don't need to worry about the effects of missing mods or custom content.

For the antivirus, open the Task Manager and look through the Background Processes list: if there's a third-party program installed, it should show up there.

The save worked! I was able to load in multiple times to the save I copied over. Also, not seeing any third-party antiviruses in task manager.

@Veythryn  Alright, then you can continue to play in the new Sims 4 folder.  If you use mods and custom content, copy them over a few at a time and keep testing—one or more of these files might trigger the problem again.  In that case, you'll need to update or remove the file(s) in question, test the others, and then you can continue playing as normal.

Just yesterday I did this (clean sims 4 folder). I had to redownload every last dlc and it took quite a while. I was able to get in and play and successfully moved over my saves, tray, and mods. The game was fine. Today it is doing the same thing. It started with a system cannot find the files, then forces a repair that always stops before it finishes with the base game. I do not want to have to reinstall my game every day.

@2222steph2222  Sorry for the late reply.  The thing is, you shouldn't have needed to reinstall anything—this was about moving the user data, not the game's program files.  What folder did you move?  And where is Sims 4 itself installed?  To check, please open the EA App and click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties.  List the location you see there.

Please also let me know what antivirus you use.
