Re: Choosing Language

Can i bring to attention that even though there are alot of issues with the language there has not been a single responds on it from ea officials. But on a question regarding store language what has nothing to do with the ingame language and thereby the core problem does not get a single official ea responds.

On a sidenote, reinstalling the game changed the game to the  english language but i still think it's absurd that i need to reinstall for it.

This is a user support community. I've jumped into this thread because @crinrict brought it to my attention and thought we could help clear things out.

I'm currently reinstalling the game in my own mother tongue for testing purposes.

I do agree that having to reinstall is a bit bothersome, but remember you can always copy the files into a different folder, uninstall, restart the install, pause it and copy the files back in, and restart it. If I'm correct it should perform a check for which files need to be downloaded, and since you'll have pretty much everything already, be much faster.

My suggestion would be to make the language packs available for download. And for those not having enough know how to play around with regedit, make it an installation program. I am no programmer myself but i wouldnt think it would take alot of effort to quickly make a installation program to install said language packs where you get to choose the language you want to play. That is if it is just a matter of putting the language pack in the folder and change the regedit.

I do not know if the language pack has commands coming  from and going to the game that makes said solution impossible.

  • Excius, I'm a girl! 😛

    Francois explained it all.

In the available languages information I have all of them listed.

And I didn't know about this copying files method, but still, how do I know I'm downloading the english version this time?

    Linna,

You go to your launcher and switch that to english.

Then when you redownload the game it will install it in the language the launcher is in.

    Hope that helps.

@EA_Francois - what about the regions where English is not listed as an option? I'm in Poland and the listing in the sdescription says that this game is available in Polish, Russian and Czech - why not English? Is there one reason why in these 3 regions we can't buy the English version?

Varhyd, Once upon a time Russian versions of EA games were sold for close to 50% off English language versions. Lot of Key selling sites sprung up to take advantage of this by offering keys to folks in other countries. To counter this, EA made it such that Russian versions were restricted to 2-3 languages only. But now, Russian versions cost the same as other regions, yet EA has not yet updated their policy to add other languages in, so we are stuck with these 3 languages even though we pay the same as members in other countries.

Hopefully they will soon fix this, but dont expect it to happen for this game!!!

This policy is unlikely to change in the near future. It is possible to purchase English versions off of reputable digital stores, though, such as Amazon, Gamestop, etc.

Reinstalling did the trick for me.

    My solution was:

    1. Uninstall the sims
    2. Change the language of the launcher to the desired language.
    3. Reinstall the sims.

A bit of a akward way to fix it but i guess it does work.

Hopefully the East Europe people get a work around their problem.

So You basically mean that Origin ain't reputable digital store? That's rich. Also, CIS translations are sickeningly bad, like half of the text doesn't make sense (or more if we're talking about space adventures), or even won't fit - sometimes you can only guess sims mood by colour and face on the panel cause text just disappears. And everyone in CIS stuck with this situation because of an outdated policy, so yeah, I would appreciate it if you as a community manager will try to change something in ea's heads as an insider.

I obviously meant reputable digital stores other than Origin, but I'm guessing that was a rethorical question.

As for the quality of the translation, I'll pass your feedback to the team, although if you're talking about specific elements I'd ask that you report them individually so we can get them corrected.

Now that's the ea i know

Screwing things up and not giving a solution. Did you guys read that? "oh, you can buy the game again from another source".

    That's great! Great!

So riddle me this. I bought the game, installed it, didn't stop to ponder about the language, because i presumed there would be an easy (and in game) way to change it. 25 hours later, i open it again and realise that i can't do that. And then, now that i can't ask for a refund on origin, a community manager comes in and says: nothing to do, you'll just have to buy it again!

Am i the only one who sees how absurd this is?

That's ea for y'all, never disappoint

EDIT: (changed to lower caps for readability)

  • sttsek, I Don''t know if you read all the answers but in the last page there'sa post saying that if you change the language of your origin in your preferences, and redownload the game, it'll switch languages.

And there's another person saying that if you move your game folders before starting the redownload and putting it back when you begin the downlaod, you won't have to wait the same amount of time as before for it to finish.

Not saying that EA wasn't stupid by not allowing language changes on game or in a game launcher, but still...

OK then, thanks for informing us about this, now I know for sure that officially Electronic Arts is not selling and not planning to sell a digital version of Sims 4 in English in my country, in other words - there is no way for me to legally obtain this product. Good to know. It is of course the most stupid business decision I've heard of, but whatever - you're not selling, I'm not buying, it's that easy.

BTW, I'm actually glad that this issue forced me to wait as now seeing the reviews, it turns out that Sims 4 is apparently worse than Sims 3 so... maybe I should go with 3... it also has English as an option.

Oh this is so sick, it's one of these things that my brain is incapable of comprehending - I imagine an executive at EA sitting there and thinking (and that's a guess): "So we have a platform for digital distribution, we have a game that we will offer for the same price for everyone, it's rated the same for everyone so that said, I decide that in 3 countries, we will remove the amount of languages in which the game can be played. Yes, that makes perfect sense, let's do this. This will hopefully increase sales and decrease piracy because obviously if there's less choice, people will pay more."

Actually, my solution only works if the language is available for your country.

As i understand, this is not the case for east europe.

    @sttsek

Looking at your entitlements, you do happen to have multiple languages available.

Switch Origin to the language of your choice in the options before reinstalling the game, and it should automatically be installed in the language of your choice.
