Re: EA please tell us the requirements for Ultra Settings (with stable fps)

@SimmerGeorge

First, the GPU-Z reading is fine.

To your question: "(maybe the fps meter that is built in with the game just works this way?)"

No, the Frames counter will be fairly accurate. I assume this happens because of the uneven utilization of your system, especially of your GPU.

For the 1440P reading, rendering a game in 2K (2560x1440) means that you have to render roughly about 2x as many pixels as in Full HD (1920x1080P)

So that is way more demanding for the GPU. (And the rest of the system as well.)
Your HWinfo log, and your description, show that your GPU is scaling as expected, going out from the sub-average performance on 1080P.

So your system can not only handle the game, it can handle it at a much more demanding resolution.

That it looses more frames on a populated lot is completely normal, there is just more stuff to draw. Every object that is on the screen, or that could be on the screen in the next split second, has to be rendered, and if there are more objects to render the GPU has more work.

Now, @puzzlezaddict  and I both think that the utilization of your GPU is sub-average compared to what we have seen so far, but we have also done everything that is reasonable for online troubleshooting. (Without having our hands on the machine.)
There are literally dozens of possible reasons why your performance is not ideal, and the game is surely not good optimized for modern high end systems.

If it runs better on 2K you can just set it back to that resolution, also let the High performance mode for the game enabled.
A positive side effect should be a noticeable better picture quality.
It is not uncommon for an older game to run better in a more demanding environment, the GPU is just better utilized and if you're not experience big shuttering 30 FPS zoomed out are not ideal of course, but playable.

  • @holger1405 Would playing in 1440p cause any problems in the long run?

Also yeah, I figured that there's something wrong with the compatibility and my game just doesn't run as it should. It's crazy that it runs so fine in 2k. I expected performance to drop massively but I guess not. It's such a bummer this game is this way.

However, I still wanted to ask if you think there are any issues in the logs of me playing other games or at least the FFXV log since I think I haven't posted any others. I am now a little bit worried that there could be  something wrong with my GPU so I think I'll try to look for the same issue in other games too just to rule out the possibility of faulty hardware. Maybe take a look at this, it's need for speed most wanted on Origin and I'm not sure if it shows a similar problem as the Sims 4.  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eilKkNoV8o3ncVWR_IY8i5z82isSYGIa/view?usp=sharing

Keep in mind this is also a very old game so it probably doesn't use much GPU power anyway. I just hope it doesn't do the whole peak and drop thing too.

Thanks again for your help. It's unfortunate nobody from EA Support here and in the Live Chat could help or even cared to help really.

I'll keep this thread open for maybe a day or two in case someone from EA wants to take a look, comment, agree or disagree, just anything really. After that I'll just use your reply as the solution. Also big thanks to @puzzlezaddict too.

@SimmerGeorge  While @holger1405 is the expert here and will likely want to weigh in, I think it's unlikely that your GPU is the issue.  It performs just fine at the higher load of running Sims 4 in QHD and also running Final Fantasy at its max capacity, or close enough, without there being any indication of a problem in the hwinfo log.

It's almost impossible to tell why your system performs worse when running Sims 4 at 1080p; that's not normal behavior, and neither is the low fps you've seen, at least not for your card.  But Sims 4 is an older game with older dependencies; even though it's still in development, its game engine was created seven or eight years ago.  Combine that with newer hardware and drivers, and there are too many possibilities to consider; troubleshooting becomes more of a shot in the dark than anything else.  Which is what Holger was saying, but it's fun to repeat his ideas and sound smart.

Anyway, as long as your GPU is properly handling the load, as it is from your hwinfo logs, and not overheating, you don't really need to worry about it.

As far as EA people go, I think at least one was reading this thread, but maybe they didn't think they had anything else to offer.

    No, it would not.

Your Final Fantasy Log is completely fine.
The system behaves as it should, utilization of the GPU and CPU is where it should be.

In the Need for Speed log your GPU is not fully utilized again.

Do you have Vsync enabled or do you cap the frame rate in any other way?
How many FPS do you get?

I don't think that your GPU is the problem here as it performs as expected in Final Fantasy.

  • Isn't my usage supposed to be low in a game from 2012? I don't know I thought it would be normal. On that note I have to say I also cannot identify any visible performance issues with NFS, fps etc seems normal. Anyway the only difference between Sims/NFS Most wanted and FFXV ist that both Sims and NFS run on Origin while FFXV is on Steam.

Another Steam game I play is Smite. Here's a log from it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dRSjNkel3MHVQKJjCYVKPg1zjNuzs5Wc/view?usp=sharing

I am not trying to make you check every game I know :P, I just want to hear your opinion on a second Non-Origin game so I can pinpoint if the issue has to do with Origin or my PC. Smite has pretty high usage and no performance issues either in my eyes. Btw Origin-In Game is disabled in Settings and all games individually.

The ultimate test would be to either buy The Sims 4 on Steam just to check its performance there. Or that linked to Origin too? Another solution would be to get the FFXV Demo on Origin and see how it runs compared to the Steam version I own.

    I noticed that too. 😉

So how many FPS do you get in NFS?

    No Vsync enabled?

    Is "Origin in game enabled?

Did you clean uninstalled Origin or just over the Windows control panel?

The system requirements of Smite are so low that it just isn't a meaningful comparison.
